Comic Peter Kay joins Doctor Who

Award-winning comedian Peter Kay is to star as a villain in the new series of Doctor Who on BBC One.

Kay - whose TV credits include Phoenix Nights and a stint in Coronation Street - will play powerful Victor Kennedy.

The role came about after the 32-year-old comic wrote a fan letter to Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies.

Excellent stuff - Doctor Who and Peter Kay all in one - brilliant!

I really like the new Doctor Who, but I didn't like that Eckelson left the show. I was just getting used to him as a doctor. The new actor that will be replacing him looks much too young and nothing like a doctor in my eyes. I will have to wait and see though...
