Well, Ive been thinking about stuff, and from the movie, I kinda related the whole line of people seeking a cure to mutantism to the whole cure for autism/aspergers and HFA stuff.

A better explanation would be, after watching the movie for the hundredth time, was thinking what would happen if they did find an effective cure for our conditions. I then related to how some people view it as a necessary part of their identity and would reject the cure, while others would want their problems fixed and thus getting in line for the cure.

This can easily be compounded because there are honestly some people that think that AS and other disorders on the spectrum are the next stage in evolution, which is a belief i disagree with completely. You can then relate that to "magneto's" group as to how they want to destroy the cure.

Yeah, I kinda had too many mental stimulants this morning so yeah...

I see the connection to many different types of diversity.

In the gay community I have often had the conversation that starts, "If there was a pill that would make you straight tomorrow, would you take it?" Not really that much different than our neurodiversity, or the mutants' powers.

Part of the appeal of the X-men is that is provides people with access to a fantasy in which their differences (and everybody has differences that isolate them from their peers!) are their access to a way of being special, important or just plain better than others.

We are no different than any other people in that we seek to find, within ourselves, those things that support our own image of self-worth.

For what it's worth, I would be in the, "reject the cure," group.

I didn't think of the movie in those terms (haven't watched it lately), but you are correct.

Not that the "mutant cure" is anything new. In the Marvel New Universe (1990s), a man with the power to cure paranormals emerged near the end of the comic series, and there were mixed reactions to him. Many wanted to be cured because their abilities made them such freaks that they couldn't have anything close to a normal life. Some looked normal and didn't see a reason to bother. Others valued their abilities but it made them different enough that they could never have a normal life. Of those, some lived with their ability and others traded it in to have a life they really wanted more than their abilities.

This was EXCACTLY what I thought when I saw the movie. There are so many people out there trying to find a cure for autism... is it really that they are just afraid of people being different? Is it that fear that causes some of them to lash out, labeling people bad parents because they don't try to cure their children and whatnot? As for the people to be cured, some will want the cure for various reasons, others fear that their human rights will be revoked and they will be forced to take the cure, causing them to want the destruction of the cure - the option - altogether.

It's not limited to autism and mutants. Basically any kind of diversity is subject to this. The line between manditory cure and anti-cure war is to fine for comfort.

Actualy this has been said a few times, I seem to remember making some big posts on the subject a while back, I am sure there are others who remember this.

At times I whish I was normal so I could fit in, but it is a part of who I am, and I really understand the mutants joining with Magneto to prevent what they fear being a manditoy cure. I heard there actualy was some breakthrough on a cure for Autism a little while back, so who is up for some AS terrorism?

Although X-Men 3 sucked, I definitely saw the connection
between the isolation of mutantism and the cure for ASDs.

I am in the ASD group that says, "Reject a cure"
because AS is a part of what makes us human
and it cannot/will not be removed.

The xenophobia a lot of people have about
people with ASDs has been saying a message
for a good time now. "You guys are freaks/losers/dummies/ETC..."

If there was a pill that would make me NT, I would
not take the pill. Some parents wish their children
were not ASD and want something to make
their children the "perfect" child.
It is only for the parents self-absorbed interests
and not what their ASD child wants.

To be honest, i would prolly gravitate for the cure, as long as it isnt mandatory. Id want to experience a 'normal' life for once, and not have to constantly burn my mind out thinking bout all that I do.
