It's pretty much the anime equivalent of this:

Think about it. Both series ended prematurely on ambiguous notes, contain bizarre characters and dialogue, as well as situations that leave you shouting "WTF?!" The end credits might as well be superimposed over a photo of Yui Ikari!

Not to sound gay or anything, but Shinji is just plain hot.

I never got into it because its so strange. The only episodes I saw were the final one and another where Shinji is trapped in a black sphere. That's about it.

Evangelion is actually one of my favorite animes. It's bizarre nature is one of the reasons why I love it so much (yay Gainax :D ).

The End of Evangelion (the movie) is the better ending and I feel that it resolved all the questions asked about the T.V. series, but it's still pretty mind f***ish and the ending is a bit ambiguous (but in a more "decide for yourself" kind-of way). However, it isn't as much of a let down as the last two episodes of the series were.

I must ask though... how come those two episodes? Did you just happen to stumble upon them on [adult swim], or was it some other way?

I saw them on [adult swim] just before they took it off the schedule.

I did hear once that Neon Genesis Evangelion was the anime equivalent of Twin Peaks. Having never seen the latter (although I have seen two other works by David Lynch: Dune and Lost Highway), I couldn't possibly comment on the links, but I also think that Evangelion could be considered the anime equivalent of The Prisoner. Both had mind-**** endings, and resulted in anger towards the shows' creators (Hideaki Anno and Patrick McGoohan respectively).

To be honest, I actually prefer the storyline of the manga to the TV show, as Shinji is less of a wimp. He's still pathetic, but at least many times he does things to try and prove otherwise. I mean, he even goes to deck his own father (with good reason, and I think fans of the show will know at which point) at one point, and has to be stopped by Kaji. Kaji is given a better back-story in the manga too, and I can sympathise with Asuka a little more given her new origin (as a test tube baby, and an elitist one at that).

I'm also intrigued as to how the storyline with the Rebuild of Evangelion will turn out.

Evangelion is my third favourite anime series. The first is Death Note, and the second is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. But it is still quite good. I cannot deny it.

Evangelion is my absolute favourite anime series! When it first came out years ago i was so damn excited and could hardly wait for each episode. Sadly when it got to the final episode i majorly had a WTF moment!! It just wen't completely twisted. Then not long after that they supposedly brought out a movie of it. I was so excited..... It was really crap! All it was was everything from the episodes condensed into a rubbish of a movie.
I was also almost in love with Rei! lol. She was so cute! :D

Evangelion was one of the last anime I had an interest in before I started becoming obsessed with Edward Scissorhands and Sweeney Todd. I even bought it most of the DVDs during Christmas!

I like Evangelion because of the deep psychological issues of the characters. For some odd reason Asuka is my favorite, even though women like her in real life infuriate me.
