My mom was telling me that it is rare for woman and people over 30 to watch and enjoy animated sitcoms (Simpsons, Sputh Park, Family Guy, etc.).

Is this true?

I can't watch sitcoms but it's only because of the noise, laughter and clapping in the background and of course the commercials in between. And I can't stand that kind of comedy either. So maybe she's right, for me anyway and in that context. But otherwise, I love most kinds of animation.

I'm going on 24 (not near 30 mind you LOL!) but I enjoy South Park. Cartman is hilarious What's with these minorities in my water park etc. ROFL!

You don't have to stop watching animated sitcoms because you turned 30, dude. What you mom means is that people in her demographic don't watch animation much. People in our demographic, who got used to seeing animation for adults on television and never thought it was "just for kids", will continue to have animated entertainment pitched at us as we age.

I've found that, lately, I have grown bored of animated sitcoms, with the exception of Futurama and Azumanga Daioh (whether that counts as an animated sitcom or not is up to you). The Simpsons, IMO, has jumped the shark long ago, and I stopped watching South Park after two seasons.

Well, my husband is 39 and loves those shows. We do not have cable and I think he misses adult swim more than the news channels... Do they even still have adult swim? Irrelevant... No it is not rare for people over 30 to watch such shows.

There's a lot of animated programming aimed purely at adults. Don't worry about it. I've found sometimes that what people mean when the say things like that is that they personally don't like to do whatever it is, in this case watching animated programs, and they're trying to influence others to their way of thinking. It validates their own preference in some way. I can't say I care much for animated sitcoms, myself, and I can't stand CGI movies, but I know plenty of adults who enjoy them both and are no less adult for doing so. Happy viewing.

Regards,

Patricia

I'm over 30 and I like all of the above, and Ren and Stimpy and Moral Orel too. It can't be too rare. Maybe the women who like these are rare, but I guess they just don't know what they're missing! Too bad for them. Maybe they're defensive about some of the themes that are presented.

My partner and I are both over 30 and we both like the kinds of media you refer to TexasTim, and evidently one of us is a woman.

Hmm... don't know if thats true. It might just be content. The Flintstones key demographic was adult women moreso than children and it aired in primetime. South Park and that are out of an entirely different mould though.

I'm 22. I don't watch them simply because I can't understand them, except for one or two. They're a bit hard, and definitely...odd.

My mom was referring to the fact that those shows cater to "college-age guys".

They cater mainly to young males I would say. (Junior High to College aged) but just because something caters to one demographic doesn't mean you're forbidden to enjoy it as well. Friends was my absolute favorite tv show as a little boy, even though it was clearly geared towards women in their late 20's to 30's.

shows cater to whomever has the most disposable income...;) 18-35 males some years, females other years.

I watch Futurama (when I can tear the TV away from the rest of the family). I just don't watch much TV, period...too busy on the net...;)

I watched both when they first started, but after that they became boring to me.
