My friend and I were have a conversation. I have always loved the Peanuts, and totally relate to Charlie Brown. Keep in mind I'm normal and so is my friend. After learning about Aspergers, I have to seriously wonder if Charlie Brown may have AS? What do you think? I always thought he had low self esteem, but now I have to wonder.

I have always loved Peanuts, from a very young age. Charles Schulz was on the specturm I would guess, based on a documentary I saw about him on PBS. I have thought about Schroeder being aspie due to his preoccupation with Beethoven. You could say that many of the characters show one or more traits or common characteristics or co- morbidities. Linus is the intellectual with obscure knowledge and need for a (security blanket) source of comfort. Sally would often monologue and was out of touch regarding Linus's lack of interest in her. Charlie Brown's low self-esteem and problems with socializing was contrasted by Snoopy's Joe Cool as the Big Man on Campus. I could go on...

You're right! Schroeder would totally have AS. And you're right that all the peanuts seem to have some trait. It's interesting to think about. Charles Schultz may have been way ahead of his time in more ways than one.

I am not sure about ol' Chuck, I think it's just bad luck.

Linus is a possible contender, though.

Chuck Brown or Chuck Schulz?

I want to clarify. I am not proposing that Charles Schulz consciously made any of his characters Aspie, but it might have come naturally from his own characteristics via his thought processes.

I think your totally right. Charles Schultz may not have been an Aspie, but it's very possible that someone in his family was, and he used that influence in his characters. It's just kind of interesting to think about. The Peanuts rock any way you look at it. It just adds to the character of the comic when you think about it.

I think it's very possible that Mr. Schulz was an aspie. I could see it in Charlie Brown, Linus, Sally, Schroeder, even (dare I say it) Lucy (with her crabbiness and negativity).

Some phycologists use the characters from Whinnie the Pooh to explain the chareristics of Bipolar and ADHD. Perhaps Peanuts protrays the characteristics of AS.

That's a good thought! Did anyone see the comics in last weekends Sunday paper? Linus has got to be an Aspie! The whole I feel my tongue in my mouth thing. Wow!

I can see some similarities between myself and Charlie Brown...though the fact that a depressed (almost suicidal) little boy that no one takes seriously has become so well loved by happy non-suicidal people is a rather scary thought in my book.

When I was a child, I had serious issues with depression. I suffer from migraines. I have for years. When I was a child I would miss entire weeks of school because of them. Now they call it chronic migraine syndrome and is very common in teens. Back then they could never find the right meds to make me better. I missed a ton of school. I would get really depressed because I missed my friends and couldn't keep up with the school work locked in a dark room. I could totally relate to Charlie Brown. Now that I'm an adult, I can still remember, and Charlie Brown holds a very special spot in my heart.

I can see myself as a RL "Charlie Brown" figure.

When I was little, no one took me seriously because from grades K-8,
I was the "fat kid" that everyone, including {dare I say it}
some of the teachers who picked on me what seemed like
every day. I never told anyone, not even my psychiatrist,
over the notion no one would believe me.

In high school, it was the opposite,
although a lot of people said many things
about me behind my back.

Now that I am in college, I can remember
and I feel Charlie Brown is an imaginary friend of sorts.

About the world of Peanuts, Schroeder is
definitely a contender and so is Linus.

To me it looks more like Charlie Brown has depression, like Eeyore in Winnie The Pooh.

Ok, Tigger could be ADHD, but which of them is bipolar? As soon as I learned what clinical depression was. I thought of Eeyore. I think Rabbit has OCD. My daughter was really into them when she was younger. I always liked them too because they seemed more like people (albeit animal people) than other characters in children's books. And they are definately more human than the Teletubbies which only held her interest for a few months.

Ok, please tell. Which of them is bipolar?
