Were the American Idol judges too hard on him?

I feel that instead of breaking out in laughter, they should have helped Danny along by asking if he could try singing them without auto tune.

Um... I'm sure the judges wouldn't be able to hear the Auto-tune... so... the voice could of actually been that bad to force the judges to laugh. It's likely the production crew added that later to increase the funny factor for the television audience... Or the YouTube video is fake...
