Are there any films stories that you could recommend in this genre? I'm exploring a theme. Half thinking about setting an Aspie sci-fi in someplace like the JR Center and just seeing where it goes.

I want to read around the genre area first. Both these are highly extreme examples of genre
and I like looking at ideas in extremity before toning it down. Weirdly inspiring.

Heroine- Aspie female with extreme IQ and maybe something else. She's incarcerated + subject of extreme behavior program + being zapped. Maybe there's more in the sections under the center?

Both are sci-fi anime. But I would say more on the psychological end of things. I would not call them "extreme" examples, as they are not all that atypical for the type of stuff you find in anime.

Have you seen evangelion, serial experiments lain, X, ergoproxy, witch hunter robin, kurau, solty rei, perfect blue, boogiepop phantom, paprika etc. Honestly this is the tip of the iceberg, those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Serial Experiments Lain and Kurau though sound kind of up your alley.

Have you read Shutter Island ?- Brilliant book . Sort of falls into this dark psychological experiment + gvt research genre as well. ( ignoring end) This seems an interesting grey area to set a story in.

Did you know BF Skinner, founding father of all things that now go zap in psychological institutions, is rumored to have kept his own baby daughter in a plastic box for hours on end to prevent over stimulation?
