Synecdoche

I watched Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, the other night. Had to look up the title (according to Wikipedia: Synecdoche (pronounced /sɪˈnɛkdəki/ si-NEK-də-kee; from Greek synekdoche (συνεκδοχή), meaning "simultaneous understanding"). While I can't say it was the most enjoyable film I've ever seen (even of Charlie Kaufman's), it was very striking as a story about the acquisition of theory of mind. Has anyone else seen it?

I think it is one of the most brilliant films I have ever seen. I loved it. But it made me feel a deep sense of despair. Nobody else I've talked to has had that reaction; they say it isn't a sad movie. I know that; it makes me feel cosmic despair, not some sort of empathetic misery.

What a downer! I had to stop watching it half-way through.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly uplifting. But extremely smart! Charlie Kaufman did an interview about it on The Colbert Report, watched it last night. Was interesting--sounds like he rarely gives interviews. I know it's a cliche to speculate about celebrities, but... I wonder about Charlie Kaufman.

I really like the movie. It's beautifully written by the same guy who wrote Being John Malkovich, which is also a good movie.
