I've watched a couple of episodes, and thought it was pretty good. The little boy didn't seem incredibly severe -- just classic Asperger's stuff, with whatever would make the story more interesting or palatable to the general public. I thought that they did an exceptionally good job at portraying what it is often like when parents receive the diagnosis.

I looked into the reason why "Parenthood" has an Asperger's character -- apparently one of the writers for the program has a child with Asperger's. So no matter what, even if people on this forum complain about whatever representation is portrayed in the show, the guy WRITING it has first-hand experience. It may not be other people's experience, but he is writing about Asperger's from HIS POINT OF VIEW, AND making it entertaining to keep the raitings up. Whatever everyone else may think, it's my opnion that this is nothing as positive -- get the concept of Asperger's and how it impacts families out to the public, so that more people know about the syndrome.

He doesn't seem severe to me, he actually seems pretty average, even mild. Although we haven't seen very much of him yet, so it's hard to say. It's a great show though, even beyond the AS stuff. I really like it.

This show's a lot more realistic and the writers actually did their homework on the subject of AS. Though there are a few times when they go a bit over the top...at least it's not downplayed like other shows on tv. I've seen too many shows where they have someone who's quirky but intelligent so they have them diagnosed as having AS  Ugh! There's so much more to it than that.

On the downside however, I'm getting sick of Max's AS taking over the storylines. It gets boring when you push it in our face every episode that the kid has severe problems that his parents cant seem to handle.

it sounds interesting. i'll have to see if i can stream it. (i had to stop owning a television because i'm such an addict.)

edit: ps. i just saw an episode (man vs. possum), and i didn't think he was so severe. all of that was really familiar from my childhood---including the tv fixation.)

I was actually quite a bit like him as a kid, except for knocking the fish tank over. I could never be so frustrated that it would cause me to want to hurt animals. Everythhing else, well he's alot like me now even. I like bugs, lizards and pirates, make very few friends, get wierd when plans change, sensitive to certain noises that no one else notices. All very familiar.
