Psycho is the only movie by Alfred Hitchcock that I've ever seen. I really liked it, though, and wouldn't mind seeing some of his other movies.

1. North By Northwest
2. Vertigo
3. Psycho
4. The Birds
5. Rear Window
6. Dial M For Murder
7. To Catch A Thief
8. Blackmail

I remember seeing a couple others, but those are my favorites in order of preference. I'm a bit of a film buff.

ooh, this thread will be helpful. I have a Hitchcock dvd set of 20 movies but I haven't watched any because I don't know where to start. I will use some of your recommendations as a guide. :)

I wish somebody would do an update of North by Northwest. It was really an early template for the modern action thriller.

I don't think Psycho could be improved on - that's as close to perfect as any film I've ever seen.

The Birds might do with a CGI update in 3D. Too bad Hitch isn't around to do it, but somehow I don't think he'd be too impressed with either CGI or 3D. :?

I've tried to watch Spellbound a couple of times and keep falling asleep in the middle. Not a good sign, I hardly ever do that.

I saw Vertigo as a kid, and I know I liked it, but I saw Mel Brooks' High Anxiety parody several years later and now I can't sort out my memories of the two.

Haven't seen many but I liked Rear Window, except for the bit with the helicopter!

Also, what was the one where the gay couple murder someone then host a party with the corpse in a trunk in the middle of the room? That was interesting.

I believe that's "Rope" but it's been a long time since I've seen it.

My favorites are

The first version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (I don't like the one with Jimmy Stewart)
"The 39 Steps"
"Blackmail"
"North By Northwest" (The blu ray is beautiful)
"Frenzy"

I quite agree that the blu-ray of NBN is beautiful, and I really hope that they do that treatment with more of his classic movies. North By Northwest is easily one of the prizes of my blu-ray collection.

I haven't seen that many, but I liked The Birds and Rear Window, and I recall an episode/movie that might've been Hitchcock. It was about a young boy who takes his father's gun and starts wandering around town... at each location, he plays with it - aims it at a person and pulls the trigger. Of course, the gun started unloaded, but the kid adds a bullet after each time he pulls the trigger. Eventually, the gun is completely loaded... good flick.

There was no helicopter in the Hitchcock version, the one with Jimmy Stewart and Raymond Burr.
