Do you agree with me that Christopher Nolans batman films like the dark knight and batman begins are really boring. I think the films take themselves far too seriously.

I prefered the 1990's batman films like batman forever and batman and robin.

Do you think I have a point or not? Hopefully they might use more dark humour and special effects in batman 3?

I like Batman Forever because I thought Val Kilmer played the part well, but Batman and Robin was a humiliation to Batman fans everywhere. As if Joel Schumaker's gay neon set design wasn't already a throwback to Adam West (only not funny), Clooney is too in love with himself to be a good Batman and all of the villains in B&R were absolutely AWFUL. I had hopes that Schwarzenegger would make a great Freeze, but all the corny lines they put in his mouth - oy! - and what the hell was that bargain basement Bane even doing in the movie?

From the wobbling icicles hanging on car doors to the Poison Ivy costume left over from Bewitched, that movie just reeked. I believe the great Sheldon Cooper once called Joel Shumaker 'the man who single handedly almost killed the Batman movie franchise' - my sentiments exactly.

That said, the Nolan interpretation isn't horrible, but it does take itself a bit too seriously at times, and IMO Bales suffers from the same narcissistic smirk that I hated so much in George Clooney. I think he's the weakest player in the Nolan Bats films.

So far the bad guys have been excellent, but I think its always an iffy thing to populate a Batman film with more than one villain at a time, it bogs the story down, makes it too long and in the end one of the two (or more) characters gets short shrift, when they (and the audience) would be better served by giving them their own showcase. There are plenty of Batman Villains to go around and I don't think they can make too many Batman movies, so spread 'em out...

Batman Begins was ok. I hated the Dark Knight, so boring at times. My dad thinks batman begins was the best. Liam Neeson was the best thing Batman Begins in my opinon and of course the brillian Cilian Murphy did the film justice as well. Heath Ledger was not as good as I had expected him to be in the Dark Knight. Jack Nicholson was way more funnier as the joker.

Batman of the Future was awsome I must say.

What do you think Batman 3 will be like? I hope they make Batman 3 more like Batman Forever but that ain't gonna happen and it will be more soul searching boredom most likely :(

Batman Forever has to be my favourite though :D

The Adam West Batman incarnation was meant to be funny. Unfortunately, IMO at least, campy humor is only funny for a little while, then it just falls into pointless stupidity, and that's exactly what happened to that show. On the upside, I was only 7 years old when I was first watching it and had no clue that it was supposed to be funny, so I loved it anyway.

"No thanks, I'll just stand here at the bar. I shouldn't want to attract attention." :lmao:

Batman is meant to be the most serious of superheroes. There should be no comedy whatsoever where he's concerned. He exists in a gothic, noirish world, his enemies are all insane, and he himself fights because of childhood trauma. Making Batman funny or camp was a ridiculous product of the 60s that should be obliterated from all memory.

No Bale is the best man ever. I loved hearing his crazy terminator tantrum and reading about him attacking his relatives at the premire.

Oh come on guys have you got no sense of humour yourselfes have you?

The problem is when watching chris nolans adaption of batman its painfully obvious that he is trying to hard to make the films as dark and as gritty as possible. Sorry I still say the past batman films were better.

Who says batman can't be funny? I think Tim Burton did a good job of giving batman that dark demanour. The batman films of the mid to late 90's gave batman a fresh new funnier kind of appeal. Tim Burtons batman films as far I am concerened already covered the serious tone of the bat. Chris Nolans films are dull, I mean I think Christian Bale is a great actor and all.

I hope batman 3 lightens the franchise up a little bit. The only funny thing about the new batman movies is Michael Caine as Alfred, he is one of the best things about the news movies. Can you belive the old alfriend in the 1990's batman films? He is an english actor called Michael Gough and belive it or not he is still alive (hes 92 years old). Wonder why they did not use him in the new batman movies?

Tim Burton's Batman movies were nothing like Batman is meant to be, though. I normally like Tim Burton, but the guy definately wasn't striving for fidelity to the source material.

Batman is not meant to be funny!

Actually Burton's first Batman film was a very faithful rendition of the original Batman comics in stylistic look and approach to the character. If you'll notice, in the newsroom when one of the guys shows a hand drawn cartoon of what they think the Bat Man looks like - a Bat dressed up in a pinstriped suit - the signature on the cartoon is Bob Kane's, the guy who created Batman. If he hadn't approved of Burton's vision for the character, he would never have contributed original artwork for use as a prop in the movie.

But I mean come on...you can't populate a character's world with bad guys who dress up as clowns and penguins and say there can never be any humor in it, ever.

I hate Nolans batman movies. Hopefully a new director will take over from him and put some humour back into the franchise. The Dark Knigh blech, boring as hell.

Why did they not use the old alfred in nolans batman films? Batman begins already covered the soul searching crap now lets move onto some special effects and amazing set designs.

Even better why not just stop making batman films. I heard Nolan is remaking superman. It will probably be called "The soul searching adventures of superman". Tedious

@KaiG: agreed

@Willard: I did like the design of the burton film, but everything else was bad (nicholson was decent though)

@Jamesy: batman doesn't mix with humor
