What about Newhart? The one from the 80s with Newhart being called Dick. An author living in a strange town in Vermont with a pretty middle aged wife, a shallow (but pretty) maid (Stephanie?) and George. In the early episodes they lived near a habitual liar, then they lived near Larry, Darrell, and Darryl.
A truly great show with odd ball characters and a strange town. Larry, Darrell, and Darryl were a great sight gag trio combining Marx Brothers with a rustic absurdity. I miss that show. It's rarely on.

I had forgotten about that show. The one I see today is the earlier series with husky-voiced Suzanne Pleshette. If I remember correctly, your later series ends with "Dick" waking up next to Pleshette as if the Vermont adventure had just been a dream, one of my favorite series endings. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Right, the one with Suzanne was the 1970s series called "Bob Newhart Show" where he is a psychiatrist in Chicago. Correct, the 80s series ended with him waking up in the first series. Also Larry, Darrell, and Darryl own the town and the two silent brothers speak for the first time.

Newhart was running on WGN on Saturday or Sunday. Some people don't get Newhart's dry humor but I think its so classic and unique.

Where I live, WGN ran it on Sunday nights. It was a welcome relief to unwind from a hectic week. They stopped running it here in September.

Bob Newhart is an odd duck.

How many shows has he had...all eventually get canceled. Some run longer than others. He always plays himself.

But he keeps on going.

He lucked out.

Zer0netgain, I must defend Mr Newhart's career. All his shows were not cancelled. Just the ones in the 1990s or 2000s. His 70s era "Bob Newhart" was a success, he played a Chicago psychiatrist. His 80s sitcom, "Newhart" was a hit. It was not cancelled and it ran from about 1983 to 1990. After that, his shows flopped.

I should have been more precise.

For a man who, in essence, plays "himself" that he's had so many shows that ran for various lengths of time is very fortunate.

I know of no other actors who have enjoyed that kind of success.
