I'm a Doctor Who fan from back in the 80's. I thought I'd do a thread all about both the classic and reboot. My first doctor was Tom Baker, with the second version of Romana and Adric as his companions. I fell out of step with it thanks to the cancellation in 1989 and have recently been getting back into it via dailymotion.com and youtube.
My favorite Doctors: Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant, and Jon Pertwee (recently discovered the Pertwee run. I like this run. Kinda campy, but enjoyable.)
My favorite villains: Davros and the Anthony Ainley version of the Master
My favorite companions:
4th: Romana II, K-9, Sarah Jane, Nyssa
5th: Nyssa
6th: Peri (kinda)
7th: Ace
3rd: Liz and Sarah Jane
Note:I've also seen a 2nd Doctor ep (Patrick Troughton's run) with Zoe and Jamie called "The Mind Robber" The episode immediately made me a fan Zoe. Too bad so many 2nd Doctor episodes are missing.
Favorite episodes:
3rd: Terror of the Autons (the first app of the Master)
4th: the entire Key of Time arc, which I saw as a re-run. It was great)
5th: Resurrection of The Daleks
6th: the entire Trial of a Timelord arc, which basically saved Colin Baker's run from pure suck)
7th: Remembrance of the Daleks (in which Ace takes on a Dalek with a FREAKIN BASEBALL BAT!)
10th: Blink (the Weeping Angels' first appearance)
ok, your turn. What are your Doctor Who memories? How long have you been a fan? Favorite Doctor? Favorite Companion? Why do you even like this show in the first place?

I freaking love Dr. Who.

I might have to come back after my Dr. Who fevered brain calms down, but I just gotta say that I almost cry every time K-9 saves the day.

Sarah Jane is one of my favorite companions, I consider her to be one of the first non-useless companions.

I also love Martha Jones. She's extremely smart, and let's admit it, had the worst time of it as a companion of the Doctor's. An entire year where she walked across the earth? And no one remembers any of it except her, the Doctor and her family. That has to suck.

What about Donna? She doesn't even remember the Doctor.

I was actually thinking about Donna after I posted this. It is very sad that she had all those life changing adventures and can't remember any of it... So remains unchanged. However, I still think Martha had the more tragic and difficult time of it.

Sadly I haven't been able to watch the new season of Doctor Who so I won't be able to comment on those companions.

My favourite Doctor:
Well they were all good but Tom Baker if I have to.
Favourite companion:
Thats harder as I like these for different reasons it must be ether Leela, Adric or Ace but don't make me pick as I do not want to killed with Janus Thorn or blown up with Nitro 9 as for Adric anyone with a star for mathematical excellence must be cool.

My favorite classic-series Doctor is Tom Baker, and my favorite companion is Romana 2 (although Nyssa had a cool name....)

As for the new series I can't pick a favorite Doctor, they are all wonderful. And as for the companion I adore Rose, and love Captain Jack Harkness, and am getting to like Amy.

Oh, man.

Favourite Doctor? The Seventh, after he gets dark and manipulative (so from Remembrance of the Daleks onwards), followed by the Tenth, then the Fourth, and then the Second.

Favourite companion? Well, I liked Jamie and Zoe, Sarah Jane, Leela, the second Romana, Tegan, Ace, Martha, Mickey, Donna, and Wilf.

Favourite villains? Besides the usual suspects (Davros is at his best in Revelation of the Daleks: he even has a dark and twisted sense of humour), well, there's a few. BOSS (from The Green Death) has a marvellously sardonic sense of humour for an AI, the Pirate Captain (from The Pirate Planet) seems to love taking the mickey out of himself, Rorvik (from Warrior's Gate) is a study in frustration burning through into madness (his last words before everything goes kablooey is "I'M FINALLY GETTING SOMETHING DONE!! !"), Hindle (from Kinda), while not exactly a villain, is a scary nutjob who screeches "I have the power of life and death over ALL OF YOU!" at the Doctor and others, Sharaz Jek and Morgus (from The Caves of Androzani) are brilliant villains driven by very different motivations, and have such wonderful lines (when they finally meet, Jek snarls "You stinking offal Morgus, LOOK AT ME!! !" before ripping off his face mask to reveal...nastiness), the Borad and Maylin Tekker (from Timelash, and easily the best things about that story), Kroagnon (from Paradise Towers), Kane (from Dragonfire), the Gods of Ragnarok and the Chief Clown (from The Greatest Show in the Galaxy), and finally, Light and Josiah (from Ghost Light).

But the favourite villains (besides the usual ones) are the Celestial Toymaker, Omega, the Black Guardian, Sil, the Valeyard and Fenric. I won't go into detail here. Later maybe.

I've been a fan since, I think, 1991. That means that for nearly two-thirds of my life, I have been a fan, albeit with a hiatus in the early 2000s.

For some reason, even after watching every episode I could on PBS for ages, every Saturday, I can't remember a single villain from the older shows. Oh, other than the Master, of course, and groups like the Daleks and Cybermen. Back then, the Daleks were easily my favorite. They're hilarious.

Tom Baker is my Doctor, as they say. But I've enjoyed the latest three, and I liked the one little movie with Paul McGann in spite of the wig. I suppose what really won me over was the Wild Bill Hickock costume and the Harpo Marx yummy face he made when he offered someone a jelly baby. But yeah, my favorite is still Tom Baker for old times' sake, and David Tennant because he really was a lot of fun which is hard when you spend half your time apologizing... "I'm sorry. I'm so, sooo sorry..." No wonder he started to crack.

I think the 9th is under appreciated, though. I got the chance to watch some of his finally and he really was... that's right, I'm gonna say it... fantastic. To paraphrase:

"Go to your room! I'm glad that worked. Those would have been terrible last words."

Christopher Eccleston is my favorite Doctor.

I agree, I loved Eccleston, it took me a while to warm up to David Tennant. (I think David Tennant's Doctor ended up being a bit of a drama queen at the end....)

When I was a Kid, 5 or 6 years old, I was in a Childrens Home.
We didnt get many days out, but the first time we went to the pictures, and that was the first film I ever saw, "Dr Who and the Daleks" with Peter Cushing as the Dr.
I had never ever seen anything in colour, kids today are exposed to so much interesting stuff, but back in 1965
You can imagine how amazing this experience was for me.

Awwww...

I can almost imagine... almost. I hadn't realized Peter Cushing played him. I can imagine him hunting vampires and working for Darth Vader but I can't quite see that one. Maybe Youtube...

It's hard to find the DVD in Australia (I only found it earlier this year), but it is available.

Peter Cushing plays...well, the nearest Doctor that I can compare it to would be if the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton) was both a father and a grandfather.

Here's the trailer...

And a slightly more actionful trailer done by a fan...

I remember that movie! There was a television thing called "Creature Features" on Saturday nights that ran all sorts of horror and sci-fi flicks, and they ran 'Doctor Who and the Daleks' and I remember how fast my heart was beating and how I couldn't get to sleep that night.... I was sure the Daleks were going to kill everyone.....
