I like the ghost type of horror movies, not so much slashers, so here are some of my favorites so far, some of them being the scariest I have seen:

The Ring (whole series) - both original and remake
The Grudge (whole series) - both original and remake
Shutter - both original and remake
The Others - because it was different and interesting ending
The Orphanage - I am not sure if this one was translated or if I just watched with subtitles
Scream (whole series) - I didn't think I would like it because it is a slasher type, but there isn't that much blood (compared to many other slashers) and I ended up liking the series and the characters
Drag me to hell - was pretty good too in its own way

trying to think of more ....

p.s. if there is already a thread about this I'm sorry, but I wanted to start a fresh thread anyway (I don't really care for replying to people who sent a message in 2005 lol)

My favorite is Francis Ford Coppola's lush Dracula. I like any movie with Gary Oldman, and this is one of his classic performances

I don't normally like horror films, but there are a few exceptions.

Jacob's Ladder

Let the Right One In/Let Me In
(both original and remake were pretty good)

I don't like horror movies generally, but for some reason I do like zombie movies.

the horror must be leavened with a bit of hilarity for me to be able to watch- so the horrible hilarities are as follows-

dawn of the dead [1978]
motel hell
the exorcist
reanimator [international uncut version]
theatre of blood

a decidedly NON-hilarious but still entertaining horror flick was "Seconds..." - downright chilling.

The exorcist is the scariest movie I've ever seen brrrrrr

Maybe you would like Drag me to Hell, some people thought it was funny (I think because of a scene with a cat, and the make-up in some scenes), personally tho I was too scared to be amused lol

Great movie, not typical horror movie, very unique.

LOL, yeah -- they receive so much hate, and only because they're different... All they want to do is eat brains; is that so wrong?

For some reason this is now making me want to see if Netflix has "Shawn of the Dead."

I haven't seen that one, I like the actor tho (Simon Pegg), I have another of his movies, Hot Fuzz.

Shadow Of The Vampire

I had never heard of this one so I checked on Imdb and someone gives this advice, which I may follow, sounds like a good idea:

I highly recommend watching this as part of a double feature. First, watch Murnau's original 1922 masterpiece, "Nosferatu", then watch "Shadow of a Vampire." You will appreciate "Shadow of a Vampire" a lot more (or maybe vice versa).
