I see that most people here are into pretty mainstream stuff, things that would make me throw up. Is anyone else into the artier/European style of film?

(i.e.
Michael Hakene
Krzysztof Kieslowski
Lars von Trier
Gus Van Sant
Jim Jarmusch
Jean-Luc Godard
Jacques Audiard
Kornél Mundruczó etcetera...)

Is that due to a sensory issue?

Nope. It's to do with an aesthetic (even idealogical) issue.

Your ideology triggers a pharyngeal reflex and small intestinal peristalsis with emptying of the gastric and duodenal content? That is pretty extreme, I'm sorry you have to live that way. At least your triggers are easy to avoid :)

I can recall at least one movie I've seen of some of listed directors. I guess I've seen more, but it could be like 15 years ago, when I didn't know directors name or even film title.

Michael Haneke - I've watch "Piano Teacher" about 2 weeks ago, can't say if I like it yet :)
Krzysztof Kieslowski - Three Colors trilogy, but all I can remember - I liked it and Juliette Binoche :)
Lars von Trier - "Dogville" is one of my favorites films. I've seen "Dancer in the Dark", "Breaking the Waves", "Antichrist" but didn't like em.
Gus Van Sant - I've seen "Drugstore Cowboy" and "Good Will Hunting", hmmm, I can say I like em.
Jim Jarmusch - "The Dead Man" is one of my favorites movies ever. Also enjoyed "Down by Law" and "Ghost Dog"

Can you recommend some art house movie to watch next?

I've seen a few Jim Jarmusch films. Night on Earth (?) and MysteryTrain (which I loved).

I like a lot of "art house" kinds of films. I like Kieslowski (The Decalog is one of my favorite sets of films) and Jarmusch but I'm not a big fan of the other directors you list. Different tastes, I guess.

I actually haven't seen anything by Haneke, but from the descriptions of his films, I don't think I want to. Lars Von Trier, while definitely a good director, I think gets too caught up in torturing his characters. Not really my kind of thing.

Some of my current favorite films are:

"Songs From The Second Floor" by Roy Andersson - A very dark comedy about how people use each other. Very stylized and abusrdist.
"Brand Upon the Brain" by Guy Maddin - Again, dark absurd comedy, very stylish. And in English too! (Although it's a narrated silent film)
Other directors I tend to like are: Aki Kaurismaki, Jacques Tati, Alain Renais, Aleksandr Sokurov, Andrey Tarkovskiy, Ingmar Bergman, Kurasawa, Ozo etc.

I don't get much of a kick out of the standard mainstream films. Some can be good, but my tastes tend toward highly stylized or cerebral philosophical films.

I'm a big fan av Gus Van Sant's work.
And I agree with you, mainstream film is rarely interesting.

I am a big fan of these films. Although I really like the mainstream stuff, too.

I've seen Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy, and the utterly hilarious Even Cowgirls Get The Blues - both of these were pretty decent movies, and even include one of my favorite authors, William Burroughs.
I also love the work of Guy Madin and David Lynch. I'm sure there are others that would fit with your criteria.
