Seriously, why? They went downhill after the 1st one. Please tell me all the characters get killed in it at least. Maybe it wouldn't have been such a bad idea if they'd started fresh with new characters etc.

I did saw the first one on TV last week. I think TNT. I remember watching the 3rd one and thought it was terrible. The 2nd one wasn't too bad. Did Derek die in the 2nd one?

I'm actually pretty excited about this one. I'm not a fan of slasher films at all, but I love how the first two deconstructed slasher films and their sequels (the third wasn't very satisfying, however). I'm wanting to see what they'll deconstruct in this one (possibly the hash of remakes and reboots that have pervaded the last decade).

It's assumed Derrick died in 2. I can't remember if it was ever mentioned in 3. What I do remember about 3 was that the point of it was that it was a TRILOGY - as in, we're only going to do THREE. Effing liars.

My 11 year old is dying to see it. Kill me now.

You make a good point, Snark. That was what interested me in the first two - the sort of horror commentary running theme. It was different.

That's exactly why I liked that series. I couldn't really take it seriously enough as a horror/slasher film, but as a deconstruction of the genre they were very satisfying. And since the genre has changed quite a bit since the 80s cliches (and since Scream had the nerve to call them out on it in a slasher film) it will be interesting to see if the new movie's observations will match what I've noticed about the modern slasher film.

At the time, it was a trilogy. It's been a while since the last one. I have heard that the people involved are more of those who did the first two films than did the third, which gives me some hope for this one. If it had been made in the '90s I might have still been interested. But in all honesty although I liked the first run, my interest in the Scream franchise has died (no pun intended) since then.

Scre4m actually got a '15' certificate here in the UK. So it can't really be that extreme, plus the BBFC have become far more accommodating to horror movies in the past ten years. A horror film needs to be fairly violent to be classified '18' here these days.

I think 15 is roughly the equivalent of an MA rating which is what the first Scream got in Aussie if I recall correctly (which maybe I don't.) So that sounds about right.

Well, yes. Scre4m is the first film in the Scream franchise to get a '15' rating though. All other movies were rated '18'.
