Is it myself only, or does it seem as though much of the attempted productions of the last decade and some of the current decade are clones of older material? If so, why is that? Is it because most people lack the creativity to come up with original ideas or that they are too lazy to do so? Is there some other reason for this trend or is it my imagination alone?

Well maybe because of the internet and peoples large concern with pop culture we may have so many culturally embedded ideas stuck in our heads that many creative people become less creative and truely creative ideas might not ever be brought forward for fear of being too strange.

Just a though, that may hold some relevance. :)

They are appealing to the masses.

Ever seen the film 'Idiocracy'. The premise of this film is at least part of the puzzle.
