So I haven't been able to find any actual trailers, but google Red Dawn Remake and see how stupid it looks.. I haven't seen the full original, but I know it's about the U.S.S.R. invading the U.S. during the Cold War, so obviously it was relevant. But this one was to have Chinese invaders. However, to be politically correct, they changed it to North Koreans. Firstly, I'm pretty sure the North Korean's don't even have a boat that would carry them across the ocean, and even if they did, it's not like they'd be able to do that much damage. Secondly, where's the relevance in an invasion by North Korea? During the Cold War an invasion by a well armed Soviet Union was a plausible scenario, but North Korean's? Seems to me that Hollywood is getting just a little desperate for movie ideas...

This exemplifies one of the major reasons I dislike remakes, especially when they pertain to political subject matter. Oftentimes studios will try to adapt an old plotline that resonated with audiences from a different era and make it fit into our current worldview. Most of the time, unless it's very intelligently handled, it just doesn't work. The Manchurian Candidate is another example, where the modern remake fits neither the Cold War sensibilities of the original movie or the novel upon which it was based. I think that what adds insult to injury in this particular case is that the new remake's original premise with a Chinese invasion did have a bit more plausibility than a North Korean one-- but of course, it was scrapped for pretty much the same reason as it had more viability in the first place: because the Chinese have a rapidly expanding economy due to their large manufacturing capacity.

The North Korean storyline sounds lame. The Chinese invading ins plausible so I would go see that if they made it.

Actually they should do one about Mexico invading and that would really be a box office smash!

Ah yes, can't piss off the Chinese for business reasons, so lets go with something completely implausible instead. But then again, the original movie was pure 80s cheese, so it might work I guess. Although do I love the original despite how bad it was in many ways, it's one of those movies that's fun to watch every now and then with a bunch of other movies from that time to remember how different things were then.

I thought the original Red Dawn sucked, and this sounds all the more suckier.

Sounds like you're thinking of that game Homefront. Same basic plot. They went with the NK invading because they didn't want to piss off China.
