Just a crackpot theory. Molly Ringwald played the main character once on Broadway right? Some of the songs she performed contained ironic titles like:

"There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This"
"You Should See Yourself"
"If My Friends Could See Me Now"
"Where Am I Going"
"I'm The Bravest Individual"

Molly Ringwald's performance was... polarizing, to say the least. Some of it is on YouTube, and is particularly Narm-worthy. But then again, wasn't she always a Narm Factory? See the part where she's sewing up her father's body in The Stand. I'm surprised she hasn't become an Internet meme on the level of Chuck Norris or "NOT THE BEES!"

I love Molly. :D But then I've only seen her in Sixteen Candles & The Breakfast Club.

EDIT: Oh, gawd, it's Gary Sinise, my soul mate. This is a sign.
