Despite being an obsessive Godzilla and Gamera fan, this other stuff has somehow failed to interest me over the years. Funny, you'd think it'd be right up my alley.

Maybe you should give it another shot. Try Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger, although it's not official and actually made by Toei for adult fans, this show would make you laugh. Give it a try.

I was actually recently considering buying Ultraman: The Complete Series since it's so cheap. Of all the non-Godzilla and Gamera tokusatsu stuff that I've glimpsed, it's interested me the most, probably because of the obvious similarity to the Godzilla series. Not surprising, since it was created by Eiji Tsuburaya, the special effects director who did the first dozen or so Godzilla films. I'll at least check out some clips on YouTube, both of Ultraman and your other recommendations.

Alright, it had to be done... Ultraman: The Complete Series was selling on Amazon for $6.99, so it found its way into my shopping cart, along with some other crap I shouldn't be wasting my money on. I'll reply with my thoughts after I've watched some of it.

Ah, nostalgia. I used to watch Ultraman and Himitsu Sentai GoRanger on TV when I was little.
I liked the stories up until they changed into superheros. Fighting scenes were always the same.
I didn't like Kamen Rider much because it was modeled after a grasshopper. (grasshoppers freak me out)
I had some Ultraman figures that I used to play with...(or maybe they were my brothers'. can't remember.)

Isn't there a GoRanger type of show in the US? I think I saw it on TV one time.

If you're referring to the bowdlerize that is Power Rangers (Still there today), I think that's it, but I retired from watching it after SPD due to too much overacting of "Huh! Ha! HyaH!" on scenes where it's not supposed to be said.

Raises hand I love Super Sentai started watching 2 years ago and got hooked started with Jetman then Timeranger onwards. Seen all the series from 2000-2012 and of course Jetman,Liveman,Zyuranger and Dairanger. Currently watching Kyoryuger absolutely loving it (In fact bought some Kyoryuger stuff yesterday :D ) and Bioman, Maskman,Kakuranger and GoGoV.

Also recently watched Akibaranger which I found amusing and am currently watching Season 2.
So anyone who watches Super Sentai whats your favourite?
Mine is Abaranger but I like them all really.Least would have to be Go-busters( Liked J Beet Stag and Jin though! )

ok this is kind of embarrassing but i just watched Denjin Zaborger because it was on Netflix. I know it's not Ultraman. Honestly it might be a parody.. I have no idea.

It counts too.
Which one, the 70's series or the movie remake?

It's the remake. It was hilarious/wacky. But the original was probably better..? I'm gonna have to look into some of the ones you guys posted. This genre reminds me of the fight choreography from the original mighty morphin power rangers series.

My copy of Ultraman: The Complete Series arrived yesterday. I watched the first episode and had mixed feelings about it. I'm aware that it's essentially a show for kids, but it's still a bit too juvenile for my tastes. It's definitely more like Son of Godzilla or Godzilla vs. Megalon (or the later Gamera movies) than Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster or Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised, since Eiji Tsuburaya was the one who insisted on Godzilla becoming a friendly good guy in the middle of the 1960s, and was responsible for silly things like Godzilla's victory dance in Monster Zero. Also, I'm aware that this was made for television rather than theatres, but the quality of the suits and fight scenes is sub-par.

I don't find it terrible, however, and some things about it I flat-out love (like how Ghidorah's voice is the "ringtone" of the radio communicators). I'll stick with it and hope it gets better. Not many TV shows are too good right out of the gate.

By the way, someone uploaded every episode of the 2005 series Ultraman Max to YouTube, as well as the 2012 film Ultraman Saga, and I'll be checking those out as well. I've heard some very nice things in particular about the former.

nice! Too bad I stopped watching Kamen Rider for some reason, ending with OOO. Those with an asterisk are the ones I watched already, with Bioman already seen in my childhood.
