I'm a big dork. I like history so I'm a sucker for period piece tv shows. Watched all four seasons of the Tudors (drove my mom nuts with history lectures when they messed things up). I own all 2 seasons of Rome and am now going to watch the Borgias.

Anyone else like these kinds of shows?

I have not seen those shows but I am very much a fan of movies covering that era or having a particuar non-modern setting, I guess they fall under the category "costume drama" for me :D

I do know about Tudors and I have been thinking about watching Rome but I have not yet.

I enjoy those "costume drama" movies as well :)

Rome is very good but graphic. I like the fact that in the DVDs they have those little "easter egg" thing where facts appear in a box at the bottom of the screen. :)

Wives & Daughters was really good. It was a BBC miniseries. Those are great.
I guess I'm another fan of that genre. I like to guess the facial expressions with my bf.

Rome - Roman Empire
The Tudors - Henry VIII
The Borgias - about Rodrigo Borgia, Pope Alexander VI
Mad Men - set in 1960s New York City

One of my favourite shows right now is Mad Men, and I am getting into the Borgias.

Madmen is one of my all time favorite shows. I love the look of the early and mid sixties.
I also was an avid viewer of the "height of the Roman empire" period piece I, Claudius, which I first watched with unwavering fascination when I first saw it on PBS when I was in junior high.
Yes, I was, and still am, a nerd.

I love Mad Men. Betty is the most annoying thing on two legs though..have to change the channel when she's on screen. I was Joan for halloween and no one got that.

As to the poster above. Yes, Deadwood can count.

I first saw it when I was in junior high, which had to have been sometime during the late seventies, early eighties. While it played on PBS here in America, it was a BBC production. You should be able to still find the series on DVD.

You might wanna watch Rome, OP, which is a series.

It's pretty out there though. Everyone screws everyone. Literally and figuratively. :D

I like the movie Elizabeth.

She was one of my obsessions as a child, and i love Cate Blanchett.

Elizabeth was a good movie. They also made a tv series with Helen Miren as an older Elizabeth.

I love Deadwood! It definitely counts!

It's not super accurate for history, but it has a certain truthiness...

PS
Supposedly, Wild Bill participated in the first quick draw, movie style shoot out in 1865, Springfield Missouri, killing a man named Davis Tutt.

Apparently the conflict concerned gambling debts and the accidental impregnation of Tutt's sister.

Just a bit of trivia...

Shakespeare In Love was also a great period piece. One of my favorite movies.

That was a great movie. My mom is fond of the Sense and Sensibility movies, I don't know if they'd count in this genre, but I can't stand either one. Jane Austen is not my thing.
