why Kardashians?

Why was a reality show created around the Kardashians in the first place? What's so special about them? (except that the girls are good-looking)

Probably because prior market research showed that it would provide the network with many viewers.

Who knows? Besides Bruce Jenner, who was an olympic hero in his day. There really isn't a whole lot of stuff going on with the Kardashians. It's the same with the majority of " Reality " shows. There is an exception Storage Wars, there is a guy named Barry Weiss aka " The Collector " who in my opinion is one of the most interesting people on television.

As for the first question, it's hard to say a few years before a " certain scandal " people never knew who Kim Kardashian was. As for why, apparently television producers think young people who get into trouble makes for good ratings. * Jersey Shore anyone? * to be honest, it makes watching T.V. a chore now with very few good shows on.

Mr. Whatshisname Kardashian was part of OJ's "dream team" of defense lawyers.

Thats how the Kardashian "name brand" first came into my consciousness.

Then there's the fact that Bruce Jenner married into the family.

So there was both a brand name recognition factor and the fact that the clan is part of beverly hills royalty -so to speak- they hobnobbed with the famous even before they were made famous themselves by the show.

Hot girl does sex tape and gains fame. Since they are hot and gained fame and don't behave well, seems like great candidates for a reality show.

I have absolutely no interest in reality shows, and wont watch them. I also don't watch those "talent" shows, except when relatives send me links to particularly interesting segments. I have seen several nice magic acts that way, and Susan Boyle's big break. She has a really nice singing voice. I also suspect that she is on the spectrum.

But reality shows are SO FAKE!! ! So, why watch them?

I think what it is is the producers know that talented and hard-working people can be intimidating to the typical teenage viewer, so it's much better to cast a bunch of self-serving, shameless, talentless brats to reinforce the message that sassy attitudes, designer clothes and good looks can get you through life.

After all, that is the same message that the advertisers of such shows are selling.

In their own shallow way, the kardashians are the goldman sachs of reality tv. They produce nothing of any value, but make money simply by keeping the plates spinning.

I've never seen it. I do like some reality shows. I like Hoarders, Wife Swap, sometimes I like Mob Wives. It just depends on my mood.

My daughter said she heard somebody say "I want to get rich enough to buy a tv station. I'm going to call it Reality TV and show only music videos".

This is for real? I don't follow the Kardashians. She really had a sex tape done? Was it before the show started or after?
