Whats the "monster" on LOST?

On the last episode of Lost they showed the "monster". It got right up in Echo's face. What the heck was that thing??!?!

Any input?

its merely an optical illusion, a 'trick of the light'

I watch Lost religiously. I think its pure fear and the only people who can be hurt by it are the ones who are afraid of it.

I was going to say that is it the collection of emotions of the people on the island. As Alex stated, it could be fear.

In the first series they were attacked by a giant bird/dinosaur thing. Could it not be that?

what about that wire-like thing that grabs and pulls people down into a hole?

I remember someone stating it was some sort of "alarm system" for the "others". I think perhaps its all tied into the Darmha stations and the people that were a part of the project....

The polar bears ate the surviving pilot, I think.

It still is one freaky black somke cloud mist thingy. Or, it could be one big evil, fart.

Reminds me of "Forbidden Planet"=monsters from the ID!. But i think they are all characters in a simulation game
and their precrash selves are the people playing.

The others are mods,and they keep rounding up the kids because its not an age appropriate game.
The doomsday button is some sort of reset button.

Then again, remeber the ending to St.Elswhere? The entire story had taken place in the mind of an autistic kid.

think they'll kill off Walt's dad?

So what is the monster? Will We ever see it one day?

I think think it is his own personal demon the guilt in soild form. That could kill him but he is overpowering it. But than again i do not think very bad acts could make a soild form but exist in that persons mind and the humans they hurt. But in the story why not ?

I think the fear thing is a good idea. I honestly have no theories about it because the show is so unpredictable, and my guesses are likely to be wrong. I prefer to be surprised.
