Has anyone seen the TV series that spawned the Naked Gun movies?

I have it on DVD (all 6 episodes), and I like how much of the gags made it into the movies.

But I never got the gag where Lt. Drebin asks "Cigarette?", and the other person replies "Yes, I know".

Because he's not saying "would you like a cigarette?" but is just saying the word "cigarette," the other person thinks he's merely identifying the object instead of offering him/her a cigarette.

I love Police Squad.

It's such a shame they cancelled it, and only 6 were made.

Good thing the 3 films came out...well, not so much the 3rd one, but it's still pretty good. :D

I used to watch it as a kid, when it first ran on TV. Back when almost everyone else was watching Magnum P.I., which explains why Police Squad didn't get further than a few episodes. :(
