Does anyone really like the "Cars" movies?

I do....I've always loved movies about Cars that are sentient, and I actually bonded with the characters in the first movie and used to think of them as my imaginary friends and protectors (still do, to an extent.
) I bought the DVD of the first Cars movie the day it came out, and like I do with any movie I particularly love, I watched it over and over until I had the whole thing memorized. xD
My favorite characters were Mater, Mack, Doc Hudson, The King, Snot Rod, Fillmore, and Sally - I remember feeling bad for Mack when McQueen forced him to drive all night....come to think of it, McQueen didn't really start growing on me until recently.
I liked Cars 2, as well....but for some reason, it didn't seem to leave me as fulfilled as the first one had. But, that's not the movie's fault; I attribute it to several other factors: I was 14 when the first one came out, and a LOT of yucky stuff had happened to me in b/tw 2006 and the summer of 2011, leaving me unable to feel as carefree and lighthearted as I used to be, and because it seemed like the second Cars movie had literally hundreds of new and interesting characters (like the World Grand Prix racers) and barely made any use of them...the movie seemed to exclusively focus on the new characters of Finn McMissile, Holley Shiftwell, Professor Z, Miles Axlerod, and Francesco Bernoulli. And oh yes, just WHEN do they plan on giving Susie the Little Blue Coupe (see my avatar) the cameo appearance she deserves?? (LOL sorry, rant over.
)
In general, I love both of the Cars movies, but the first one was my favorite....I honestly don't have a problem with the sequel, I just would have loved to see more character development...but I LOVED Francesco and the fact that Mater had a leading role in Cars 2, since he's my favorite character....
Well, that's enough of that - what do the rest of you think of the Cars movies - opinions, real life experiences, ideas for a Cars 3, anything's welome! ![]()

Hi LtlPinkCoupe,
I haven't watched "Cars 2" yet, but personally I really love the first "Cars". Normally I'm not into cars, I know virtually nothing about them and I have many issues with them (environmental, mostly). However, I do really love the way they show cars in the Pixar film. I love the story, the animation and the characters (my favourite character is Mater, very funny
, I also really like the Hudson Hornet). It's interesting that you're so into them, I don't think of Aspies particularly liking Pixar Disney films.
Nice that I'm not the only one who's strangely into animation. Pixar isn't my favourite by far, but I have to say I do love movies like "Cars" and "Finding Nemo."

Hi, nice to meet you - I think it's great that you're concerned for the state of the environment - we need more people with that kind of concern.
I love Finding Nemo too - it's another movie I memorized after it was released onto DVD.
I think it's one of Pixar's most creative, colorful, and beautiful films.
I also think that the way the Cars are designed for the movies were part of the appeal, like you said - they had a sort of rounded shape, and the majority of them are usually smiling and look very kind...and the eyes...I think the eyes are very important; their eyes look very soft, sympathetic, and caring...very human and they were reassuring to me. ![]()

Hey LtlPinkCoupe, that's interesting that you loved "Finding Nemo" and also memorized it, I don't really think of "Cars" and "Finding Nemo" in the same category, except for the fact that they're both Pixar.
Yes, that's a good point, the eyes of the cars in "Cars" are very human! That probably helped. I also loved their human characteristics and their human personalities. Do you tend to find human eyes reassuring? Just interesting, because until a few years ago I found it almost painful to do long eye contact with people.

Hi, mightyzebra...
I actually find making eye contact somewhat easy, but it was something I had to be prompted to do...I think that began when I was about 11 or 12 and my mom made me go to this speech therapist...I didn't have any speech difficulties, all the therapist wanted to do was teach me how to talk endlessly about totally mundane things that had absolutely no interest to me, like sports and the weather...
She would eventually start becoming mean when she realized that I had no interest in what she was trying to force on me. I'd try to talk about the things that interested ME for a change, and it made her mad...xD I don't think she even realized how boring the topics she would come up with were.
Anyway, I digress....one of the first things this so - called speech therapist noticed that I didn't make regular eye contact...but that was mainly bcuz I was just shy...I almost didn't feel worthy of making eye contact with people, bcuz I sort of intuited that everyone thought of me as "the different one," if that makes any sense. But anyway, once she mentioned it to me, I thought that maybe making eye contact was my ticket out of the therapy my mom was forcing me to go to...so, *boom!* I started doing it!
Unfortunately, my hopes were for naught and I was stuck with that therapist with her sandpapery voice (and another one later, who was even meaner than the first one) for another couple of years. The third speech therapist (I kind of went thru em like tissues - I suspect they each dropped my case after a session or two cuz they realized they couldn't control me) recognized that I was there for no good reason, and finally announced that all my goals had been met ("goals"...what a laugh) and essentially told my father and I that I was done there.
I still suspect that this new therapist had been on my father's and my side from the beginning.
But anyway, I can understand why making eye contact could be difficult..I might not be able to keep it up it were particularly sustained eye contact...and I only did it bcuz I was under the impression that it would get me out of therapy quicker. The funny thing is, once I began making eye contact, I didn't stop...I kept doing it. but prior to that, I'd thought it would be scary, and I was shy, so I just didn't do it much. ![]()

That's interesting that even though you could communicate OK with people your mum still wanted you to see a speech therapist. I had speech therapy when I was very young, but that's because I didn't talk at all! I needed to start from scratch, pretty much and with help I managed.
Basically, for some Aspies, eye contact doesn't come naturally, we find it easier to talk to people without looking at their faces and to listen to them without looking at their faces. Also, there is something about the human eyes for me, that is very hard to concentrate on, so I find it difficult to do long eye contact with anyone. Some eyes I find more painful to look at than others, I'm not quite sure why that is... Even if I feel comfortable with a person, I still don't always look into their eyes, I do eye contact when I remember rather than when I'm with a person I know well. In fact, sometimes I find it easier to do eye contact with strangers than with people I know!
Strange, but true...

I have watched every Pixar film BUT the "Cars" films. It's not my thing.

I do think the first Cars movie is rather underrated. Alot of people would put that film near the bottom of their list but I enjoyed it a bit more than the other Pixar films. Cars 2 on the other hand was annoying not just for the awkward use of the spy plot but how the script was pushing too hard on the audience to have any sympathy for Mater. This kinda annoyed me a bit in the first film when they did it but it was complete overkill in the second film to the point where I was more annoyed with Mater than sympathetic.
