What do you think is the status of religion in Equestria?

I personally think they're atheists, seeing how there's no temple or priests or any form of cult towards Celestia, even though she's pretty much a god.

That's quite surprising considering that Equestria in general doesn't seem more advanced than 1700's Earth.

Actually, I disagree with your last comment. They seem to have somewhat advanced technology--they have trains, cider-making machines, humidifiers, lightbulbs, and probably other things that I've missed. I think that the electricity is just overshadowed because of the magic, and the fact that they don't have cars because of the shapes of ponies.

I do see that their religion is strangely absent. Maybe they don't need a religion since they're able to see Celestia and Luna, who apparently made night and day, in person, which serves two purposes: 1) they're able to directly ask the most powerful residents of Equestria for help and 2) they see their faults, so they don't have to see them as "above" and start worshipping them.

Celestia is their God, but they don't worship her as she is among them.

Who needs religion when you have ponies?

Anyone think that the episode "Feeling Pinkie Keen" was a veiled reference to religion vs. science?

Personally, I don't see it that way myself, but I've read some comments about it (on TV TROPES, for example).

That's actually what I tought, but the creators said it was completly unintentional and they didn't realise it until people commented about it.

Supposedly, a coincidence. The first time I saw it, I took more as "trust your friends".

I've heard some references in which certain things usually said using the word 'God' were replaced by 'Celestia' or, I think recently, just something similar to 'ponies'.
In the episode where those delicious desserts were eaten, Twilight Sparkle said "By Jove", which is apparently an antiquated way of saying 'By God' without being too in-your-face.

There are veiled references to religion, but no more, and probably fewer, than could be expected in any conversation.

I don't see how religion plays a role in the cartoon nor have I notice any referrence to religion at all.
