I'm not going to lie, I really do like the show Family Guy and find it hilarious. However after learning more about the creator of the show I don't think I really like him that much. He seems to have such an egotistic opinion of himself and thinks he's right about everything. He's really insensitive towards religous and special needs people and has never actually made an effort to apologize when people call him out on it, instead he always finds a way to deflect it. Plus I really just don't like the way he potrays the Southern part of the United States in his show because I was born and raised in Georgia, and while I admit some of the stereotypes he pokes fun at have some truth in them most of them are just ridiculous and ignorant on his part. Watch the episode "To Love and Die in Dixie" and you might see what I'm talking about.

I still like the show though because a lot of his jokes do make me laugh, but as a human being I get the impression he's nothing more than a heartless sociopath and an arrogant a**hole.

Yeah he seems a bit arrogant, but some kind of heartless sociopath? most people are pretty decent, I'm sure he can be too.

I think most of the jokes in Family Guy are hilarious, but I absolutely detest Seth Macfarlane. He is incredibly judgmental towards religious people, Christians in particular.

I don't care about the fact that he's an atheist - hey, my favorite movie director probably is too (though he's never officially stated his stance on religion) - but I wish Seth would leave the Christian-bashing jokes out of Family Guy. I miss out on a lot of episodes from having to skip them due to their offensive jokes and plotlines regarding my beliefs, which makes me sad since I enjoy Family Guy otherwise.

Another thing I hate about Seth Macfarlane is his smug, arrogant attitude. He thinks that just because he's created a couple of popular cartoons that he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. He reminds me of John Kricfalusi (another arrogant cartoonist, creator of Ren & Stimpy) that way.

I don't know much about Seth Mcfarlane, but I watch a fair bit of Family Guy, and I don't think Family Guy makes fun of Christians any more than it makes fun of pretty much everything else. To call it a one trick pony makes me wonder if we're even watching the same show.

It's easy not to be offended by something if the jokes aren't targeted at something that's important to you.

Exactly. I just get annoyed when people watch shows like Family Guy and laugh at all the terribly offensive jokes, but then get outraged and angry when a joke comes along that offends them. You said "I wish Seth would leave the Christian-bashing jokes out of Family Guy", but what about the Muslim-bashing jokes and the Jewish-bashing jokes? Are you fine with him leaving those in?

The way I see it you can choose to watch less offensive sitcoms (there are plenty of them around) or watch shows like Family Guy or South Park and accept that something will occasionally offend you.

I've been watching Family Guy a lot lately, especially older episodes (season 3). While I love the show in general, there are a couple of jokes I think cross the line. There were one or two Michael J. Fox jokes I thought were extremely offensive. But it hasn't made me stop watching Family Guy.

As for MacFarlane's arrogance or self-conceitedness, I don't have a problem with that. Quite a lot of great artists are hilariously conceited, but it doesn't detract from what they're making, in my opinion. In fact, in some strange way, arrogance can be charming.

My problem is that he makes fun of all religions. I mean I may be an agnostic athiest myself, but I still respect other people's right to be religous. His belief that the world would be such a perfect place with no wars or violence if religion didn't exist is a load of crap in my opinion, common sense should tell you that people will always find a reason to kill each other even if religion didn't exist.

Now like I said before I still enjoy the shows because they're very funny to watch, but let's face it. Seth is kind of a jerk. He's not even that creative because he's made three different shows about the same thing, and each of them copy The Simpsons.

I used to like Family Guy, I was crazy about the first three seasons, but starting in season four (when it was restarted after being cancelled) it seems that they got cocky just went crazy with the offensive jokes. Not to mention that while Peter Griffin used to be a well-meaning doofus, now he's a mean-spirited, childish, antagonistic pseudo-retard. There's a difference between "let's tell some edgy jokes" and "let's see who we can get away with offending". Half the jokes seem to be "let's take one minor aspect of this topic (such as a celebrity's physical features) and blow it up to absurd levels". It's dumb. They aren't even trying anymore.

I'm glad I have The Freakin Sweet Collection on DVD. It's only 5 episodes, but they're all good episodes from the earlier seasons and it was really cheap too. :)

Like Trey and Matt (creators of South Park), Seth MacFarlane is an equal opportunity offender. And yes, he makes fun of all religions (except Scientology, probably out of fear of being sued), and I think he lampoons even his own liberal views.

I think more people will be offended by the disability and child molestation jokes.

I friggin love Family Guy and I guess I like Macfarlane as well even if he goes a little too far. I don't really know much about him except for the fact that he created 3 animated shows and is a voice actor, but I'm sure he's a nice guy. Take Christian Bale, he's kinda of an a**hole but I still love the Batman movies. I will be honest not every episode of Family Guy is good. But still is Macfarlane really the only one to blame for some of his offensive jokes on the shows I mean he didn't make those shows by himself. He's poked fun at some religion, enthnic groups etc and I'm pretty sure that most of the people who worked him are associated with those groups. I'm pretty sure(even though that I don't know) that there is a jewish person among ther staff.

South Park did a two-parter episode on a future without religion which I think had a better point.

Aside from jokes that are kinda "i can't believe they went there" types, the show is usually at its best when it's not preachy and has clever storylines. American Dad and Cleveland don't have appealing enough characters to keep me entertained in the same matter as Family Guy.

This movie Seth Macfarlane directed, due this summer, looks really stupid
and looks like a remake of a 1950s classic called Harvey, only this time
it involves a talking stuffed animal rather than an imaginary friend.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_(film)

I stopped watching Family Guy after about three or four seasons
not because of offensive jokes, more because of plotlines kept getting recycled
over and over again, same thing with American Dad, both seemingly copying
off of The Simpsons.
