As I am typing this I'm sitting in the living room on my sisters laptop and listening to the nostalgia critic's review of Babes in Toyland while my family are watching a film called The Departed in the same room which I have never seen, so what does that tell you? I love watching movies a lot but there are some movies that i'm just not that interested in especially ones that are considered good. The type of movie that The Departed is is not my type of movie. The movies I like are sort of out of the ordinary movies like superheroes, animation, sci-fi, action, comedy. These are the type of movies that kids would watch but some of these movies are not really that suitable e.g. The Dark Knight and that's what I am, a kid or sometimes a teenager both of them trapped in the body of a 25 year old, in other words immature. I guess I have a sort of dislike for mafia, mobster, gangster type films. Goodfellas was comprised of nothing but a bunch of jerks and a**hole characters in my opinion. I do love villains of course but I'm more on the lines of The Joker, Darth Vader and Khan Nooien Sigh. I know alot of you will say when it comes to films like The Departed that you should watch it and give it chance but my feebled mind full of well lets just say kids stuff is not interested. When it comes to movies like that I want Batman and The Joker to come in a kick the asses out of these characters. Heck I'm more interested in watching some of those movies that the Nostalgia Critic reviewed.

Personally I like films that are emotional and have a strong message. I prefer for there to be elements of sci-fi or fantasy, but that's more of a luxury than a necessity. I guess I'm a bit of a hipster when it comes to this, too, because I prefer films that aren't mainstream (That's not to say I don't like any mainstream films). A few of my favorites include Batman Begins + The Dark Knight (I'm going to the midnight release of TDKR, too, and I have very high expectations), V For Vendetta, The Green Mile (The book is awesome, too), Labyrinth, Edward Scissorhands. I could go on, but I have somewhere I have to go soon, and if I get started on the topic of film, I'll never stop.

I like films with unusual characters or storylines in them. That's why the movies that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have collaborated on are my main special interest - I never get tired of seeing Johnny Depp dress up in a fancy costume and do his thing. :D Granted, I don't like them all equally, but on the whole they are exactly the kind of movie I enjoy seeing. I also like Pirates of the Caribbean for the same reason (even though I'm not really obsessed with it per se).

Other movies I really enjoy that have nothing to do with either Depp or Burton include The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Repo! The Genetic Opera.

Also, I'm not usually into animated movies much, but there's one that was made in France and released in the UK that I'm just dying to see. It's called A Monster in Paris. Even though Tim Burton had nothing to do with it, it seems like something straight out of his imagination. The premise reminds me a lot of Edward Scissorhands (misunderstood monster falling in love with a beautiful human woman).

I like a movie that is dark, the kind of movie where. A young boy or girl, gets picked on by her or his peers. Then the young boy or girl, becomes a homicidal maniac. The kind of movie where the victim becomes the monster society made him or her into.

I'm fairly eclectic with my tastes in movies, but I usually sitck with films that are mainstream or quasi-indie. There's no particular year window I prefer my movies, although I have to pay a little more attention with silent movies since you could get lost if you miss one of the dialog cards. Same can be said for foreign films and the subtitles. It's a little difficult to watch some of the older acclaimed European films, but some of them are really good. Asian films, for some reason, I don't seem to have as much difficulty as far as getting into the movie goes.

I try to watch the films that have appeared on "best of" lists or award winners, but I always have a bad movie on standby to balance things out. The only exception is that I usually won't pay money to go out and buy a bad movie on DVD or see it in theaters.

My tastes are toward off beat, somewhat philosophical things. Or absurd and dark comedy. I also kind of like things that are mildly transgressive and challenge the viewer's expectations. When I first watched "The American Astronaut" I kept thinking "I can't admit to liking this film or else people will think I'm really weird" (Then I remembered that they already think that.)

Stylization really appeals to me. "Brand Upon The Brain" with it's highly artificial, narrated silent film style is so apart from conventional film making that I can easily watch it just for the pleasure of its style. But it too has a somewhat transgressive approach to things that really appeals to me. The story involving parental repressiveness and brain nectar is something I can relate to.

"Forbidden Zone" by Richard Elfman is another favorite. I mean, who can argue with Hervé Villechaize playing the horny m***et king of the sixth dimension?

Interestingly, the previous three films are black and white, visually stylish and "American Astronaut" and "Forbidden Zone" are rather twisted musicals.

Another great musical is "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" It is a road movie that follows a polka band from Siberia as they attempt to play rock and roll throughout America. This is not so visually stylish, but it's worth watching.

"Playtime" by Jacques Tati is an amazing series of sight gags, but it is shot all in long shots and the jokes are rarely pointed out. It can be rather bewidering to someone not familiar with Tati's other films so it's usually a good idea to watch "M. Hulot's Holiday" and "Mon Oncle" first.

For drama, I really like "Paris, Texas," "Last Year at Marienbad," and "Solaris" (original Tarkovsky verison) These are slow moving and introspective. If you hated "The Tree of Life" you'll probably hate these films as well. Other films such as "Wild Strawberries" "The Sacrifice" Mike Leigh films etc that focus on small personal stories are what I tend to like most when I am in a serious mood.

I don't like a lot of the popular films as well. I enjoy some horror, psychological thrillers, drama and some comedy.

I mostly like comedy these days. I used to be really big into horror movies until I started realizing that most horror movies are kind of stupid, although there are some that I still like such as the Ju-On films and The Blair Witch Project.

But I'm more into comedy now because it doesn't take much to make me laugh. I can do anything from silly to sarcastic to vulgar humor. Some of my favorite comedy films are The Addams Famiily & Addams Family Values, the American Pie films, the Scary Movie films, Bride of Chucky, Austin Powers International Man of Mystery & The Spy Who Shagged Me, Sister Act, and White Chicks (the unrated version).

I prefer mostly realistic sci-fi, films like: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Primer, Code 46 etc. Pretty much everything by Kubrick.

I also like unrealistic sci-fi of course, I loved the recent Tron: Legacy film, that film blew my mind. In fact, I think it'd have been near perfect if not for the character Quorra or whatever.

Mainstream films which always need a female object fitted awkwardly into the puzzle of film making, annoys me so bad. If you think about it, most American comedies have some perfect looking, goodie two-shoes female character who is there just to plain ogle at. They often have no real purpose, they're like product placement.

I like films where the film makers can define each character, and give each actor responsibility and the ability to be unique in the film.

Ghost World is probably my favourite comedy, all the characters are so well defined.

I like quality movies - the genre doesn't matter too much if it's well-done. But I think I like movies with a historical setting best (even if it's only a few decades ago).

I guess when I think about it I am both into and not into popular movies. At the beginning of the year there were films like The Artist, War Horse and those are the films that are nominated and won best picture and all that stuff but despite all the rave about these films films I'm not that interested. I will say I wouldn't mind seeing War Horse but I was looking more forward to films that are not gonna be oscar nominated or have oscar winning performences though most of the films I see do have that stuff.

Today it was Fathers day and we all sat around watching a very bizzare film called The Quiet Man and I didn't like it so after an hour I walked out and I felt a little guilty because I can be very immature when it comes to watching films I don't wanna watch. Sometimes when it comes to watching films with the family we usually watch something I have but other times we watch something that they like and sometimes I'm not very keen and I feel kinda cruel for that and I hate it. In fact they suggested the Godfather and I didn't want to watch it because I hate mafia films and they already knew that and they suggested it anyway. I hate myself for being so mean when it comes to watching films I don't wanna watch but films are a passion to me.

If I watch films, I watch documentaries or Tim Burton's movies.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a good 'Bang Bang Shoot 'Em Up.'
Sometimes I could go for a more serious drama.
I'm always in the mood for good horror. Always.
Romantic comedy? The only way for me to sit through one of those is kicking & screaming and gagged with an apple.
Sci-fi? It all depends. Some sci-fi is like anime - you watch for one minute, you understand everything. You watch for two minutes, you understand some things. You watch for three minutes, you're completely lost.
Sometimes I'm in the mood for Walt Disney/Pixar.
I generally don't watch documentaries. I always think their filmmakers have a point to make and they're subtly trying to force their ideas onto you.
Foreign films. Sometimes. When I was a teenager it was mostly foreign films for me.

I love war movies. I don't know why, but something about it all fascinates me. I'm not big on the message side or ironic and metephorical war movies (Apocolypse Now, Full Metal Jacket), but I prefer films that purely explore combat and its effects, like Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot, and Flags of our Fathers. Other war movies I liked include Valkyrie (surprisingly engaging), We Were Soldiers (very old fashioned, but still entertaining and well made), Letters from Iwo Jima (a truly untold side of a big war), and Kenneth Branah's Henry V (an awesome Shakepeare movie and a great depiction of the Battle of Agincourt; really emotional without being cliche or corny). I really want to see Cross of Iron (Orson Welles called it one of the best war movies ever), The Big Red One, and Platoon (parents say wait till' I'm older on the last one; I saw 10 mintues of it and understood why).

Aside from that, my movie tastes are kind of mainstream I guess. I'm fond of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, the Marvel Trilogy, the latest Batman Series, and Pixar movies. I also like rediculous comedy's, like Monty Python and Mel Brooks movies.
