I know this, what I was asking is if anybody has any theories on why English people would prefer hand drawn and Americans prefer more polished illustrations. I wonder if it is a marketing ploy to try and get collectors to buy different versions?

I think publishers do a lot of research on what cover designs will work in what countries, especially for huge properties like Harry Potter. I'm sure the average American reader and the average British reader have very different tastes.

Tallgirl.

I think she does have interest in it, but in the book industry, the writer has very little control over that. Basically, if you're a writer, the publisher waits for you to finish writing the book, then grabs it, shoves a check in your hands and from there you're basically powerless. This is really frustrating for me, since I'm idly considering writing as a career. I'd hate to have a publisher design a cover for my book that didn't fit it at all.

You're kidding! I live in Cordova too! What grade are you in? You might be going to my school, Dexter Middle!

Oops, i almost forgot... I won't be staying in Cordova much longer. We are moving to a larger house in Arlington before the summer is out.

Still, its great to hear i'm not the only Aspie within the Cordova city limits!

Least favorite characters: Umbridge, Bellatrix, the Malfoys, Marietta (Cho could've brought a friend that wanted to be there.)

Favorite book: CoS

Favorite teacher: Lupin

We musn't forget that the pensive reveals thoughts of past events.
Instead of looking I-Physically at this cover, the half-blood print may
be a person with clues about either The earlier 1945 era defeat by
Dumbledore(see #1 and chocalate frog card), and the beginnings of
Tom Riddles journey into all things dark.
He was human at one point and someone had to train him, and being
half-blood?

Hmm?

Ghosthunter has a good point... Could the relationship between Albus Dumbledore and Tom Riddle possibly be the same as that between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker? (I apologize for the generalization)

That makes sense. After all, the working title of Chamber of Secrets was Half-Blood Prince. JKR has also said that CoS holds a lot of clues that relate to the 6th book. She has said, though, that the Half-Blood Prince is not Tom Riddle/Voldemort. Is it possible that the Half-Blood Prince could be Dumbledore? We not sure if he's pureblood, but his full name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Brian sounds like a Muggle name to me. Also, in Goblet of Fire, Voldemort refers to him as 'that champion of commoners, of Mudbloods and Muggles'. Hmm...I don't know. What do all of you think?

So, Ghosthunter, Archmage, (or anyone else) do you have any ideas about Neville and the gum wrappers?

I agree with you, Archmage. that is an interesting parallel.

About the covers, though you all have thouroughly discussed htis topic already, I have seen/read the German version of PoA, and the cover is UGLY!! ! But I am an American, so I guess that gives me an excuse to dislike all things foreign, eh?

Just joking! :D Any 'well rounded' person should apreciate, if not embrace, all the culture of the world, regardless of where they come from.

I just found the German covers online, and I have to agree, quite unattractive. I also just saw the covers from the Netherlands, and I think they are gorgeous. The cool thing is, in all of the covers you never see Harry's face.

If anyone is interested here is the link to see the covers from the Netherlands.

We all know that Neville's Great Uncle Alphie(I may have mispelled it)
had to drop Neville [HFA child(age about 8)] to reveal his hidden gifts that
weren't there as a witch(delayed development). Later revealed his
G.U.Alphie gave him his toad, and in book #5 the unnamable plant that
prospered like he did towards the end of #5.
Hermoine and Neville were almost equal to alot of things(except
memory) after the deatheaters escaped. He is to be Harry's equal.
And as his grandmother said, "Ah! I know you(H.P), Neville speaks
highly of you.
The wrappers are accepted as affection the only way she knows
how but expect a Rare(plant and Neville) treat in #6.

I accually think #3 was the best book sofar tho, #4 was too drawn out for what it was, however I think it will make one of the better visual movies

A semi Spoiler about The Half Blood Prince

Neither Harry nor Voldemort is the HalfBlood Prince the title reffers to

When you think about it, Harry really isn't half blood, anyway.

Actually, Harry has both Wizard and Muggle heritage, but he is not exactly half-blood. The term "half-blood" usually describes a wizard who has one wizard parent, one muggle parent. Harry's father is pureblood, I think. And Lily is a Muggle-born. Thus, Harry is kind of a 3/4ths blood.

Technically you are correct, but I have heard JK Rowling say in an interview that Harry is considered a half-blood. So I am guessing it's just used a general term for people with both Wizard and Muggle heritage.
