Hi everyone :) How did you first get into Doctor Who? In this thread we share our stories of how we did.

I was watching Blue Peter (British children's show) and they did a bit about Doctor Who that went "...before Thundercats was ever on TV, there was Doctor Who..." (this was between the end of the classic series and before the TV Movie aired). I was interested at what could come before Thundercats and so I watched this clip of Jon Pertwee and another clip of some Daleks which I thought were really cool.

When the Doctor Who film came out in 1996 I watched it with my mum and I remember being amazed when Paul McGann walked through a pane of glass without being cut because the Eye of Harmony had been open too long and was destabilising the molecules in everything (I think, I don't quite remember). I thought Paul McGann was great as the Doctor and I loved the TV Movie. It instilled in me a sense of wonder and possibility that not many things have been able to do. I didn't follow the audio adventures of the Eighth Doctor because I didn't know about them (I was 11) and when Doctor Who came back in 2005 I started watching again.

I've seen some classic Who and my favourite story has to be the Deadly Assassin because Tom Baker is an amazing Doctor. My favourite Doctor is Matt Smith.

How did you first get into Doctor Who?

I was obsessed with Sherlock for a while and all the girls in my class who love Sherlock love Doctor Who too. So I got curious and started watching a few episodes, then ended up watching entire series in a day.
I love Daleks (and Moffat) :D

I'm not into Doctor Who. I only enjoy 1 out of every 5 chapters, but I liked very much Paul McGann, he was funny and in my opinion he is the most attractive doctor so far (so it's a nice watch ).

I never understood why they chose Eccleston as the 9th doctor :?

I got into it because a singer I loved mentioned liking doctor who a lot as a kid. He used the sound of the tardis at the end of one of his songs and on the CD cover:

I happened to walk in on the tv playing Doctor Who. Thought "huh, so this is it?" Sat down and watched an episode, liked it. It didn't take long for it to become my favorite show. I get disappointed by episodes now and then, but watching Doctor Who is one of the most exciting things I do.

Bored little 5th grader, looking for a decent show to watch late at night (we only had 4 or 5 channels), and saw this older guy with pouffy white hair and a girl fighting these weird creatures with what looked like the army (Third Doctor with Jo Grant and Unit). Kept watching, wasn't scared off by the monsters, and now at 24 I'm still watching.

I noticed that a lot of people on WP were talking about it, so when I got Netflix, I decided to try it out. The first episode I watched was a Tom Baker one (forgot what it was called, but it was the one where Romana II wore her sailor outfit). I thought it was interesting so I decided to try the David Tennant episodes. I absolutely fell in love so from then on he became my favorite Doctor and most of my time being a fan of the show has been spent on him and watching his episodes.

I think I flicked through some library books when I was 8 or so, as the classic series had finished a couple of years before, and the novelisations were my way in.

When I was 7 years old (1993). And in the first year of Juniors at school I had a friend who was obssessed and now at 26 he still is I got talking to him he told me about Doctor Who and at that time it was the 30th Anniversary. The first time I watched Doctor Who was Planet of the Daleks with Jon Pertwee I missed the first 3 episodes out of six but the first episode I watched in full was The Green Death also with Jon Pertwee. It was the stiry with the giant maggots and in episode 6 the giant fly that spat green stuff on people it was also the episode where Jo Grant leaves

I don't remember how exactly, but I was in my teens and they were showing the Tom Baker stories on public tv. I remember running into my bedroom, turning off the light (it was getting dark or was already dark) , turning on my tv and sitting on the edge in anticipation, feeling a chill as the music started. I didn't discover the first 4 Docs until about 15 years ago. Now, my favorite Docs are the first four and Matt Smith. I love his Doctor. Eccleston was just a grump and whatshisname was just too goofy/campy, like Tom Baker when he'd been in the role too long and no longer took it as seriously.
