I normally wouldn't just bust a thread out for any movie but I watched this tonight and although I can't see anything particularly appealing to Aspies aside from our general tendency to look outside of the status quo, it's a decidedly anti-NT movie.
Compared to this movie, any other vampire (except Bram Stoker's Dracula: I actually sorta liked that one) movie is saved by the bell with blood.
It's not even that gory, really.
Just very daring, uneasy, extremely unsettling and incredibly beautiful, with amazing acting.
If you watch it, watch it with an open mind, and don't let anyone do your thinking for you. (as if that's ever been a problem with aspies)
Don't watch it with NT's that don't like horror, macabre or obscure subject matter.

Prepare to have your head flexed.

Yeah I liked it, a little long. Apparently it's different from the book and the author doesn't like the film. I believe it's being re-made for an English/American audience, like they did with "The Ring" and the rest.

I was fortunate enough to get to see that one at the local independent theater, it was excellent.

This is indeed a brilliant film! Very understated, so your imagination tends to take over. There are certain scenes that are going to stay with me forever.

I also heard that an American remake is in the works. Too bad.

The book (English translation) is sitting on my bookshelf & is next in line for my lunchtime reading. I hadn't heard about the author not liking LTROI. He wrote the screenplay, so I assumed that he was on board with it.

This is probably my favorite movie. I really just loved it. I even bought the book it was based on. (translated into English of course). I heard that the author liked the film alot, and personally I thought it was better than the book. I told my class about this movie and I was so enthusiastic the teacher still teases me about it. He says he plans to see it but if he dosn't like it he'll be sorley dissapointed in me.

What a bizarre film, thanks for pointing it out! The production values are excellent (special effects, etc) but I think the writing leaves a bit to be desired. Mostly the complete lack of dialog, I can tell there is a lot more to this story than what we see from this script. Also, while the main characters acting is fine, the rest of the cast wasn't that great in my opinion. Very interesting movie nonetheless.

I wouldn't mind a remake for American audiences as long as they at least try to capture the presence of this one. Unfortunately I doubt they will be able to pull it off.

There is one thing that bothers me and that is the relationship between Eli and her caretaker (or whatever he was). Was he at some point just like Oskar? Which would mean Eli and Osker's relationship really isn't special at all. Osker is just the next one in line. Maybe I missed something and that isn't the story but it left me kind of empty at the end.

I love that movie! I watched it for the first time a few months ago.

It's funny that I see this thread now because I'm watching Twilight right now and it's so incredibly boring I was thinking about watching Let The Right One In again instead, just for a bit of a vampire fix.

I'd love to read the book also, I heard it's very good.

Spoiler space...

The way I interpreted it is - Eli & her caretaker have a symbiotic relationship. She's a vampire who doesn't like to kill, so she seeks out a young potential serial killer to help her. The caretaker not only provides her with blood, he also serves as someone to watch over her & give her a place to live. Oskar is saved from a very tormented childhood by Eli - but at the price that he must kill so that she can survive. When Oskar eventually grows old & dies, she will need to replace him. She may actually like/love Oskar - although it appears that she didn't have much respect for her previous caretaker. I suppose she has to take what she can get, since the supply of potential serial killers is probably quite limited. She got lucky with Oskar. :)

Spoiler:

In the book Eli's caretaker was a lovesick pedophile. Eli didn't care for him but needed him to help her. She legitimetly cared about Oscar though. In the movie it was purposfully left open as to wether Oscar was getting strung along by Eli.

I loved this movie partly because so much could be interpreted from it. It's a multi-faceted and multi leveled. It runs nearly the whole gamut of human emotions with the un-human feeling the deepest and hard to control of those.

I saw it a couple months ago with subtitles. It really is a lovely film -- a work of art if there ever was one. But regrettably, most of the success goes to films like Twilight.

Hey, it may be Saved By The Bell with blood, but Buffy is a darn good Saved By The Bell with blood.

Hmm... Saved By The Bell was a damned good Saved By The Bell, too. I should rewatch some episodes sometime. Too bad they're not on Hulu.

But thanks for the heads-up. I'll check it out sometime.

I saw it when it came out in theatres and was very disappointed. For much of it I honestly felt bored because the pace was so slow. Don't get me wrong, it's a good film. Very well executed in many ways. But there's been so much hyperbole, so many people calling it a masterpiece, singing its praises to no end, that you go in expecting something truly special. It isn't. It's a LITTLE film. It's a VERY little film. It's well executed, but PLEASE don't go in expecting something huge or life-changing or incredible. It's just a well-done little vampire film. It's a sad case that with the genre, the fact that such a little film like this would be such a big thing...it's really telling about how many flat-out terrible vampire films there are.

Maybe it's just not what I want from a vampire film. I want a complicated plot (this has a very simple plot), gothic visuals, swordfights, and vampire sex. I knew going in that that wasn't what this was going to be, but I still didn't think it was that good.

Saw this at Nova cinemas in Melbourne last week. I think it's very clever and edgy, mixing genuine horror with vampires and not relying on buckets of blood and neck sucking to carry the day. That said, I couldn't help but think that this would only be "SBS-worthy" (Australians here will understand this). But it's still a good Vampire film, and definitely not a chick-flick masquerading as a vampire film  .
