In the new Captain America movie that will come out in 2012, Bucky Barnes who fell to his death in the first movie is set to return as The Winter Soilder. I've never read the comic books but is The Winter Soilder suppose to be a bad guy?

In Marvel's main continuity, Bucky had been Cap's sidekick throughout WWII. When they fell defusing the missile headed for the States, they were both assumed dead. Cap was recovered by the Avengers in the early '60s; nobody had any idea where James "Bucky" Barnes had gone.

Much later, they found that Bucky had in fact been recovered by the USSR, where they used cybernetics and hypnosis to brainwash him into being the Winter Soldier, their perfect assassin. Eventually, Cap found out and freed him; Bucky went into hiding to avoid the KGB.

A couple of years ago, at the end of the Marvel Civil War, Cap was shot dead (only not really, it was a TIME BULLET! ), and Bucky, safe from the KGB as the USSR had collapsed back in '91, emerged to take up the mantle of Captain America.

So to answer your question, it depends. When we first saw the Winter Soldier, he was a bad guy; it was only later that we found out he was a mind-controlled good guy.

So I guess the movie could end with Bucky turning back to good.

That truly sounds like the making of a great movie. I hope the Red Skull makes a reappearance, as it was later revealed in the comics, Buckey's KGB handler was actually under the influence of the Skull.

Black Widow has been confirmed to be in the movie, who originally worked for the KGB as well and in the comics at one point was trained by Winter Soldier, and also had a romance going, until the pesky being cryogenically frozen between missions got in the way(which is how Bucky doesn't look like hes 80-90+ years old in the modern day after being captured during WW2).
