I saw this movie today and thought it was really awesome. Maybe even more than the first movie which is probably considered the best of the trilogy though I'm not exactly sure yet. I had heard of the twist with the Mandarin though I didn't know what it was and I gotta say I don't know what to think. I never did read the comics but I pretty much know a little about the Mandarin though some animated shows. He's suppose to be Iron Man's number one arch nemesis and has ten powerful rings but in this film he's an actor with a sense of humor being paid to pretend to be this terrorist leader. To be fair I guess it is a little funny twist. Ben Kingsly was a little funny I guess and technically the Mandarin was in the film but it was Guy Pearce and he didn't have ten magical rings he was...I'm not quite sure. I guess he was a pretty cool villain but not as memorable as someone like Loki. As much as I love the Iron Man movies (minus Iron Man 2) what they really lack was memorable villains. Also at the very end why the hell did Tony destroy all his armor? Is he quitting? because he has to return for Avengers 2. The end credits did say Tony Stark will return so I guess it's not all that bad. I would go see it again to make sure if I like it more than the first movie but Star Trek Into Darkness comes out next weekend and if it's really all that good then I may just forget about Iron Man 3 all together until it comes out on Blu Ray.

Iron Man 3 is heavily based on the Extremis storyline by Warren Ellis from some years back. The Mandarin did not feature in that storyline and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce's character) had a much smaller role. I thought the twist with the Mandarin was a clever way of incorporating the character's traditional portrayal in the comics without making him seem corny.

I just saw the 3rd Iron Man. With regards to Mandarin I guess I'm confused. That scary voice you hear in the trailers is that Guy Pearce or Ben Kingsley? So when Mandarin shoots the accountant in head on live TV, that wasn't really real? When Tony comforts Mandarin, the voice sounds different. British accent. Not that scary voice on trailers or on TV. So is Killian then Mandarin?

I really like how they made the mandarin similar to Osama Bin Laden, I wonder if if they were trying to say Osama wasn't real.

Mandarin was the stupid drunk actor. As an actor he thought he was playing a role of a terrorist and did not realize that he was actually killing a real person nor that real people were being terrorized. The accent I guess was part of his acting skill when he was in front of the camera. At least that was my take on it.

Yes, the Mandarin was fake played by a Liverpool actor played by Ben Kingsley

He did know Terrorism was going on (mentions the field shooting inserts) but never condoned it or attended.

He didn't know he actually shot the executive - thought it was visual effects. Agrees with Tony he can't be not charged with that crime.

The Mandarin was not a big villain in the Iron Man comic series in the beginning.

What ruined the 3rd movie for me

was the clothes, recoding DNA for hyper regeneration does not affect clothes. Even if the clothes are made of natural fibers there will be no way to turn it into bomb clothes even if you coded the plant before it was turned into clothes it will still not grow back if the planet is dead.

The suit needing to be plugged in to charge. The arc reactor a whole power planet in his chest was made for two reasons, to keep him alive and to power the suit so why plug it in?

The freak outs he was having were never answers or treated.

Taking out the arc reactor does not end him as iron man but just means his life is no longer in danger of the iron in him killing him.

Remember the first movie? When Stark presents the miniature arc reactor to the doctor.
"This much output."
'This is enough to power your heart for 50 lifetimes.'
"Or something big for 15 minutes"

Obviously that was just a first version, and he dramatically improved it in the sequels. But the point is, it's not infinite energy. There's a limit.
The same in Avengers, he's trying to cut one of the huge flying beasts with laser, Jarvis says "Sir, we'll run out of power long before you can penetrate that armor."

His suit ran out of power, he needs to recharge.

There would be a difference of using full power in the middle of war vs flying in sleep mode. Do not forget we see suits flying all over without tony in it. The Mark 42 powered purly on electricity fly all over the US, in two battles(even firing his second most powerful weapon)
