Post any of your favorite horror movies and tv shows that you would recommend others to watch. I'll post a few of mine.

Movies:
-Hellraiser 1 & 2
-The Evil Dead movies
-The Exorcist
-Dead-Alive
-The Call of Cthulhu
-The Frighteners
-Dagon

TV:
-American Horror Story
-The X-Files
-The Walking Dead

So how about your guy's recommendations? I know some of those I listed are well-known, so hopefully you guys can reveal some hidden gems.

I've seen many, many horror films. Some are downright gruesome, especially the Takashi Miike ones. The two American movies I've seen that made me jump out of my skin were The Fog and 100 Feet.

I'm going to suggest a movie called The Mothman Prophecies.

This is not what I would call a strong "Horror" film compared to things like Hellraiser or Evil Dead. I'm recommending it because you listed The X-Files. It has a fair amount of weird random supernatural stuff going on that is centered around sighting of a "Mothman".

Loosely based on the book by John Keel which I believe was in fact a source of inspiration for many X-Files stories.

----------------------------------------------------------------

2nd Recommendation THE FLY by David Cronenberg

This IMO is good horror has a scientist realizes his experiment has gone horribly wrong. This is Cronenberg doing "Body Horror" were the enemy is the scientist's own mutated DNA turning him into a freak monster.

3rd The THING by John Carpenter

Possibly John Carpenter's best movie. An expedition in Antarctica finds an unearthed shape shifting alien. Enjoy the era of practical creature FX done without CGI. 8)

[if you like this one you might also consider In The Mouth of Madness]

4th Candyman

Something different and like Hellraiser is based on the work of Clive Barker. A reporter looks for the truth behind an urban legend in the dangerous Chicago gangland of Cabrini Green.

Ah yes, I've seen all of those except for Candyman. They were all pretty good, John Carpenter's The Thing being one of my favorite horror movies.

I really wouldn't call Fringe horror... It's science fiction.

Anyway the only good horror show I know is the Walking Dead.

Yes; the original backgrounds were kept, but with present day actors superimposed in place of the original cast (such as the creepily wonderful Doug Jones as Caesare), along with sound. For the most part, it keeps to the original storyline, with a few minor changes.

I tend to think it often encompassed scifi/horror.

And as far as TV is concerned - - how could I have left out Hannibal?

I had thought of just recommending The Silence of the Lambs.

As for the show, it is damn near close to being to cliched, but is saved by Hannibal and Will Graham.

Ah yes, Silence of the Lambs, such a great movie. I haven't watched the show yet.

Another great horror TV show is True Blood, which I rarely get to see, as I don't have HBO, but which I consider to be the best Vampire show on.
