Does anyone ever buy Blu Rays of movies they already have on DVD? Because I do.

Me, too. I have replaced several of my DVDs with Blu-rays. When I do this, I make sure the Blu-rays are too expensive. I then give away the old DVDs to a movie store.

Yeah I do but only for my very favourite movies. I still keep the DVD though. Sometimes there are some different extras or features on the DVD. I don't like getting rid of things, although sometimes I will have a big clear out and regret it, like getting rid of my PS1 and games. Anyway I'm sure in the not too distant future a new ultra hi-def format will render my Blu-ray's obsolete.

If I see a good price on them or have a coupon, I'll upgrade the DVDs I have with Blu Rays. I started doing this with my sci-fi and action movies since they would have the best picture effects, but I do it with any available one now.

Whoops. It should say 'aren't too expensive.'

I still do this. I am getting movies I don't have on Blu-ray now. If it doesn't look like it will be released on Blu-ray in the near future, then I may still get it on DVD.

Bluray is able to support 4K output. Anyway, 4K has very little use for home consumers. The distance that is required to watch an entire screen at once makes it that the difference in quality is barely noticeable.
It's only useful for gigantic screens (talking 80' and up), or graphic designers that sit really close to their screen.

The only movies I bought both on DVD and on BRD is the LotR trilogy.

But since I'm used to BRD, DVD just doesn't cut it anymore. It's not just the resolution that's better, but the colors are so much more vivid. DVD just looks grey compare to BRD.

I only upgrade if there are more extras, if a superior Director's Cut is only available on Blu-ray, or if the film itself has been remastered. Not many people seem to realize that an older movie won't look much better when it's moved from DVD to Blu-ray if the source print isn't remastered.

So far, the only blu rays I have that fall in the category of upgrading are the Star Wars films. But, of course, there are extras on the 2004 Trilogy DVDs and separate releases of the prequel DVDs that will force me to keep them, arghh (unless I rip the extras and burn them to a DVD-R, and that's too much work). I hate it when extras from DVDs are not included on the blu rays!!

And don't forget about 8K which is 16 times higher resolution than 1080p.
