Does anyone like this film? The first time I saw it it freaked me out and I never wanted to watch it again. But lately I have been watching it a few times and like it.

What do you think is the story?

The general consensus is that Diane Sellwyn is dreaming and her dream is the first 2 hours of the movie, then she wakes up and reminisces about Camilla Rhodes and the fact she arranged to have her killed. But I wonder if Camilla Rhodes really died or not. And I still don't know how the two men in the diner at the beginning fit into the story.

I also wondered if the last half hour of the film should be at the beginning and when Diane kills herself she is taken to a life that she always wanted with Camilla.

I wonder what made David Lynch think of it all.

I think Mulholland Dr. originally began as a TV Pilot. Maybe it was supposed to be another Twin Peaks type of show.

For various reasons the Pilot didn't finish so David Lynch added additionally filming to make it into a feature film. Somehow, this crazy thing was the result.

I enjoy this film. It is probably one of the more straightforward David Lynch films out there (compared to films like Eraserhead or Inland Empire), and possibly the least disturbing (again, Eraserhead).

This is probably my favorite film. I was really moved by it on first viewing, and re-watched it almost immediately. Since then I haven't seen it, as I'm afraid I won't like it as much.

I've been meaning to see more of David Lynch's work. Eraserhead is another favorite of mine, and Blue Velvet is pretty decent too.

People who like this might want to check out Twin Peaks. I have to admit that the show feels worn out by Season 2, but it's worth it to watch Season 1 or the companion film Fire Walk With Me.


I would also recommend the David Cronenberg movie Videodrome which I am obviously a huge fan of. That is a very trippy surreal movie.

I think that scene is the highlight. And Badalamenti is the man. I love his work on Twin Peaks.

The first time that I saw this, I was confused as hell. Then I read some reviews and realized that it was sort of a dream on the part of the blond girl, and that she wished she had not ordered the death of her girlfriend. But the rest of it was really weird and disturbing in parts. I have seen it a total of three times, and each time I liked it even less.

I saw it ages ago...all I remember is that after a while it basically diverged into little more than lesbian porn and I had to turn it off.

While I did enjoy Mulholland Drive, I thought it was a bit uneven - half TV pilot, half movie. I think Lynch's better work can be found in Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart, or Eraser Head.
As a side note, I loved Twin Peaks - when I was in college, everyone at school would watch it on Wednesday night, then talk about it on Thursday the next day.

Yes, the pillow you see as a transitional image signifies the end of her dreaming.

I saw Twin Peaks years ago and was equally confused by it. I don't think anyone found out who killed Laura Palmer.

I think the lesbian scene in Mulholland Drive is intense but it projects love rather than sex. It is only one scene, the rest of the movie is not about that.

I will look out for his other films but if they are more disturbing I don't know if I should watch them.
