Why do people think this show is amazing? They just threw western and scifi themes together, in fact the entire show looked like a copy paste job of different ideas. Don't get me wrong, there were some interesting ideas thrown into the mix, but the result was one uninspiring show.

I recently watched the pilot episode, and it was alright, but nothing to get worked up about

I liked the characters. So many shows reel off canned, tired script. Firefly had a rawness and believability to it's characters, along a dry wit.

it's the personality of the characters and the themes and wit that resonate with some people. Not everyone needs to think it's great, thats why it's a cult classic.

I think much of the appeal of from Mal being such an anti-hero captain and also doing unexpected things like killing prisoners.

I only saw the movie Serenity not the series. I did like it. It was the first time I was exposed to Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I saw a couple random episodes and wasn't too impressed. Some people whose taste I usually share kept raving about the series, though, so eventually I gave it another chance, starting over from the pilot on. And got hooked. I wouldn't go to a convention or anything, but it was a very intelligent and entertaining show and I wish it hasn't been killed so quickly.

I liked it, not so much that I watched it over and over, but I did watch the entire series and wished for more at the end. It was all about the characters and story for me, I really wanted the good guys and the bad guys to get what they deserved and to get to the bottom of the unanswered questions that kept popping up. It also didn't take itself too seriously, which is why it got away with borrowing the occasional trope or cliché, and didn't insult the audience's intelligence by spelling everything out that they might not get right away.
I liked Serenity, too, I thought it did a good job of wrapping up the series without losing any of the appeal.

I'll admit it: I fell asleep watching the pilot when it first aired. But when Syfy aired the series when Serenity was coming out I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it. The characters are the best part of the series ( just like any Joss Whedon series )...

also this, from Serenity:

I guess I'm alone on this one.

I really liked the underlying sociology of the show and the characters... the tension between Zoe, Wash, and Mal is great, and Jane Cobb is pricelessly entertaining. If you haven't seen "War Stories" it is worth a watch before you dismiss the show.

I'm still mad at Fox for canceling it. I like the characters. The stuff going on with River was pretty interesting(I kinda had a slight crush on her as well as Kaylee) & the stuff going on with the Alliance . The combination of syfy & western seemed kind of odd but it makes sense considering the corrupt Alliance that only cared about the central planets & the rest had to fend for themselves without the technology the central planets had. I think the plot of what's going on with the corrupt government & what happened to River is a big reason why lots of fans like it but it really doesn't come out till the end of the show. The movie explained it some but some things still weren't explained well & Shepherd's past was never explained; we're left to speculate that he worked for the Alliance before he became religious sense he said he wasn't always a shepherd, is proficient with firearms, knows how to track & has that special card to get medical treatment.

I thought it was pretty fun to watch, but I especially loved the Reiver threadline and how they kept me wondering WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON WITH THEM? I'm glad they got to make the movie so we could find out and I think it was an interesting answer to the question.

The two characters who I hated that made me want to turn it off when they appeared were Zoey and (What was her husband's name)?

Jayne was hysterical.

Same here about Reiver thing.

His name's Wash. I didn't hate the characters but there wasn't anything unique about Wash & I never got their relationship.

I completely agree about Jayne

The part where they were camouflaging the ship and what they had to do was imaginative and emotional, I thought.

I watched it recently. Saw the movie, too. I wished they did more. I like the theme song.
