Wow....

I'm really surprised that nobody has posted on this yet.

I know a lot of people were frustrated by the lack of action in the previous two Governor episodes, but I (because I'm a Comics fan) had an awful sense of dread as soon as I saw the Tank at the other group's camp.

This episode probably follows the comics closer than any other except, maybe, the pilot.

When the Governor captured Michonne (and got her sword) I knew a major character was going to die.

Spoiler wrote:
In the comics, it was Tyreese. He was a major character there, Rick's best friend and the group's second in command.

That's pretty much what Hershel was on the show. I spent the entire episode dreading the moment he would die, but knowing it was inevitable.

In the comics, this is also where Judith and Laurie die. I was afraid they were going to kill Judith and Beth on the show. I'm glad I was wrong, about Beth anyway.

I think there's a good chance that Judith is dead, but they might surprise us...

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear the reaction of fans who don't read the comics and therefore didn't know what was coming....

Watching what the actors had to say on The Talking Dead afterwards was just as hard as the episode itself.

Oh good, that means AMC is repeating the first episodes of season 4 right? I just finished watching season 3. lol

btw the comics sound kinda lame if they semi-spoil the episodes.

I suspected that sooner or later the group would be leaving the prison, but I didn't expect them to leave in fragments and after such losses. I have to admit I've been thinking more about how everyone is going to adapt to being out on the road again than I have about the most recent episode.

Well, the comics have been running for 10 years, so it's more a question of the show following the comics, or not.

The whole prison storyline was wrapped up in the comics more than 5 years ago.

Such a brutal episode. Don't read below if you have not seen it yet.

Great episode, best all year. It slightly annoyed me the choking out of Rick, with a major gunshot in his arm...but whatever it's cinematic so It's ok. Seriously they need to bring back Carol. Rick should have chosen her over that unstable liability Tyreese any day...but Ricks an idiot. A good natured idiot..but that one handed shooting has to go.
They also need to show more survival aspects. Have them carry some thermite (anyone can make it) to get into places, burn locks, weld gates, etc. Show how they get fuel , generate power etc. They started to, then everything just got trashed.... all that work, farming, for nothing. And now they are all are scattered, I'll be pissed if they had no meet up spot. So far they are surviving on a lot of luck and not much else. Great story arc though!

lol, major-characters always die on that show.

By the way, why isn't AMC repeating the 1st episode of season 4 again this week? Instead it's like the fourth or fifth one I think. Have they already repeated the first few episodes of s4 or something?

I can't really call Rick an idiot, he's more crazy than anything and if Carol stayed she'd still be a liability, given what she did and how Tyrese will react. And if I recall correctly Rick got shot in his leg.

I was excited to see them keeping animals at the start of the season, but they didn't go anywhere with that, either.

I liked seeing a more human side to the Governor - for a time. But like they say, a leopard can't change it's spots.

It beats dying of swine flu...

Also, I think Rick made the right call with Carol. You just cannot be THAT ruthless with people in the group. There has to be some trust and an understood obligation to help one-another when things get tough. Otherwise, things would get really ugly, really fast.

It will be interesting to see how Carol is next time we get to see her. I have a feeling that it won't be a happy reunion.

And I'm sure Tyrese will make sure of that if/when he finds out exactly what happened.

I'm not sure all the negativity will come from Tyreese. I mean, hell hath no fury... You follow me? 8)

The Governor was shot in the arm before he was choking out Rick. Rick makes mistakes every show, I know he's human but a sheriff should have more fighting skills. Especially a redneck sheriff (no offense to any southerners.)

1. Rick shoots constantly one handed, only an idiot would do that with his life in danger. Is he WWI Tommy....it's annoyingly dumb of Rick to shoot like that. He is the only guy who does not get to cover and just stand their shooting. Sorry Rick deserves a Darwin award, Beth is a bigger badass than Rick.

2. Carol was his most useful asset, equal to Hershal and Daryl. Tyreese was violent, unstable, moody...totally useless in comparison to Carol. Choosing him over her was a dumb survival choice. Thus Rick is a pooptard and endangered everyone and appearing disloyal in Daryls eyes.

3. Taking Away Carls gun, Ricks a moron or he was trying to kill Carl. I'm guessing he's not trying to kill Carl, thus Ricks an idiot. Since a walker breakout can happen anywhere that was horribly irresponsible of Rick. Perhaps Ricks just crazy as you say...can't he be both?

4. Shane...one word. Rick had no idea, and put himself and others at risk cutting him endless breaks. Everyone but Rick knew Shane wanted to kill him...even dale. Rick takes idiotic chances all the time.

5. Letting the Governor to live, and not taking him out when he had the chance. Now the babies dead, Hershal's dead and everything is lost and for nothing. Everything worked for, energy, water, crops...it's allb for nothing. But at least Rick "followed his heart"...
