They're here! Starlord! Gamora! Rocket Raccoon! Groot! And Drax the Destroyer!

How are we liking this, WrongPlanet? Looks pretty exciting, doesn't it? I hope it's gonna be one action-packed barrel of laughs, because if it is, it would be doing Great Justice to the glorious Abnett & Lanning GotG series!

And yes... I do think it's kind of a pity that the new Guardians are kind of outshining the original team of Starhawk, Vance Astro, Charlie-27 and the others, but hey... new times, new faces. Even if pretty much all these characters debuted before 1980.

I'm not that familiar with the Guardians, but I'm optimistic about this movie and director James Gunn. He did freakin SLITHER and now he gets a Marvel movie? lol

It's not the original Guardians, but it looks cool.

The only real reason I would want to see this in the cinema is because it's part of the MCU and it does look interesting. It has many things that interest me. Science fiction, superheroes, John C Reilly, a talking tree, a talking raccoon and a hot green chick. Strangely enough the talking tree and raccoon are the ones I find more interesting than the hot green chick. There's something kinda wrong with that. But anyway I've wanted to see a trailer to this movie for a while now and I gotta say I feel a little mixed. I get sort of a tongue and cheek feeling to this trailer and don't think I'm dumbfounded for thinking there won't be any humour in this movie because all these movies have them and sometimes in the case of The Avengers it actually works but sometimes it can be strange and kinda awkward like say in Iron Man 3, though personally I may have to watch that movie again to be sure because I remember enjoying that in the theatres and when I bought it on Blu Ray I kinda had second thoughts and it was even before the Mandarin twist. I mean usually when I see a trailer to a movie I really wanna see (e.g. Godzilla, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past) I'm hooked, but in this case I have slight doubts not so much that I don't wanna see this movie but it's not like I'm that excited though that may change. Maybe I just need to watch the trailer more and just wait for the next one.

I don't care what critics will say about Guardians of the Galaxy once it is released, but I have a strange feeling this could be a BIG black eye for Marvel, given the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy
is one of Marvel's lesser-known properties.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still see Guardians of the Galaxy when it arrives in theaters in August, the trailer was impressive, and the movie should be cool. However, the trailer did look like something straight out of any CW show.

I've never read any of the Guardians Of The Galaxy comics, but I might start.

Seems like it could do at least as well as Hellboy.

I had no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy were until they announced it, I've never read the comics (will start to, now) but upon seeing the trailer I thought it was awesome and funny.

Thor wasn't as big a property either, when compared to say, X-Men or Iron Man but they made 2 movies with him and they worked. No reason this can't either.

Does anyone know who sings the song that is featured in the trailer?

That would be Blue Swede, performing their famous rendition of 'Hooked On A Feeling':

The trailer looks like it could be fun.

I've never read any of the comics - can anybody recommend a good run or tpb to start with?

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's original 25-issue run of the Starlord-led team (2008-2010), has been collected in four volumes:
Legacy (#1-6), War Of Kings, Book 1 (#7-12), War Of Kings, Book 2 (#13-19), and Realm Of Kings (#20-25).

You'll get a good feel of the team's dynamics by simply reading those 25 issues, but I would also recommend you check out Annihilation: Conquest, which focuses in part on the team that would later evolve into this latest version of the Guardians. 'Guardians' doesn't solely focus on Rocket, Groot, Gamora, and Drax, though. A host of other characters play main and supporting roles, most notably Mantis, Phyla-Vell (the new Quasar), and Adam Warlock. A lot of roster shuffling is going on there.

I haven't read the later Bendis-written issues. I was pretty peeved that they cancelled Abnett and Lanning's Guardians at #25 to begin with.

Adam Warlock's there? Okay, sounds like they're still grounded in the Marvel universe.
