you would find it amusing as to the recorded negotiations between the censors [hays office remnant] and the producers of said film.

^^^ I can imagine... It is hard to believe that movie was released in 1962 (I think).

I hate to admit it, but Sue Lyon makes me feel like a dirty, old, Humbert Humbert.....
(not really, my crush on her started when I was 16, so it's okay)

Lolita is a good movie, but it is also kinda sad and icky...

I know it's off the thread's raison d'etre, but what do you think of the movie "baby doll"?

I was still a child, but here goes:

The sound of Music
Mary Poppins
A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum (I was too young to understand that show, but I found Zero Mostel to be quite funny in the opening number, Comedy Tonight)
The AristoCats
The Happiest Millionaire
A Man Called Flintstone
Alice in Wonderland (NOT the Disney version. There was another animated version on TV that starred Sammy Davis, Jr. As the Cheshire Cat.)

I haven't seen it. I was just reading about it over at Wikipedia. I'll have to see if I can stream it someplace.

From what I read, the movie is a black comedy with with some fetishistic undertones....

What bothers me about Lolita isn't necessarily the fetish/hebephile aspects. It's the psychology of Lolita herself (totally lost on me while lusting after Sue Lyon at 16).

She's a broken little girl who discovers she has a power over men. She uses that power to get fatherly love and attention while plying her 'daddy' with sex.

In the end she discovers that all her power really does is make men obsess over her as they try to isolate and control her.

The only person who actually loves Lolita is her real father, who dies before the movie begins.

Sue Lyon does a good job toward the end of the movie, hinting at all that damage and pain. It's hard for me to watch.... and James Mason is so creepy. When I see his character interacting with Lolita in the less comedic scenes, he reminds me of Max Schreck in Nosferatu.
