If you saw the HBO documentary Life According to Sam, you know that Sam had progeria, which is sort of a type of premature aging. Sam's body produced too much of the abnormal protein progerin which causes cardiovascular and other problems.

He most probably was neurotypical, which is fine. But Sam was different in a different way. And the fact that he found acceptance and appreciation creates more space for all of us. In January of this year, Sam Berns passed away.

RIP to a wonderful person. The disease sucks and is rare, but he lived his life very well in spite of what he had. He will be missed.

Thank you for the link. It was very moving. I am glad that they are making progress on treating the condition, and sorry that he is gone.

From the documentary Life According to Sam, I like Sam's Mom and Dad. I'm very sorry they lost their son.

I'd never heard of Sam until now, but it seems he was a joyful young man. I hope he's in Heaven with Jesus now, and his parents are also in my prayers.
