It isn't scary; it is a much misunderstood movie.

You should look at it from the priest's perspective (The Exorcist).
In the beginning, the priest is seriously doubting his faith ( drinking & thinking of womanizing.)
By acknowledging the existence of the the devil / evil, he realises that god must also exist, and so regains his faith.
It is an uplifting story of redemption.

It's a great movie about faith ( i am atheist).
Go watch it, get the director's cut; there is a good extra scene.

It's not scary.

I don't find any horror movie scary...for some reason.

Heh, I don't even find most of reality's fears, scary, like death etc.

I saw The Exorcist when I was in high school. I didn't find it the least bit scary. In fact, there were a couple of places where I burst out laughing.

Then again, since I was not raised as a Christian, I don't have any beliefs about the devil deep in my subconscious. I know people who were scared witless by the movie, and they all had strong Christian upbringings.

(Then again, all that may be just a coincidence...)
