It's a sad thing, isn't it? A poll from a years back that over 50% of Americans can't name one branch of government. At the time, I thought that had to be B.S. -- now I'm pretty sure it was correct.

Not only are Americans stupid, but they're arrogant, self-centered, and think the world is here for their amusement. I spend quite a bit of time hiking in a couple of our National Parks, and am constantly infuriated by how tourists treat the backwoods: leaving trash wherever they please, and feeding the wildlife (like bears) because they can't see beyond the end of their own ignorant noses.

I can go on forever ranting on this topic.

Unfortunately, the dumbing down of the United States has been going on for almost 40 years, starting with those of us that were born toward the end of the so-called Baby Boom, from around 1957-1970. They called my graduating high school class, 1976, the dumbest generation ever! HAH! Any wonder the states are trying to foist the train wreck known as Common Core Curriculum un the populous? They, the politicians are trying to make the U.S. Educational system into what they have in France, which is even more of a train wreck than the current state of educational affairs that the U.S. currently has.

You know, you're not obliged to have a Facebook account and if it's so terrible (and from what little I've seen of it, it is), why do you still have one?
This seems rather like someone complaining because hitting themselves in the face is painful.

Facebook is how I communicate with my family, who are all consumed with these reality series. Other than that, the only things coming to me on Facebook is Buddhism and science articles

Ah, so it's all coming from your family.
I think I'd disown them immediately...

Why not text your family and friends? I find texting and phone calls so much easier to deal with than Facebook. I can't stand bloody Facebook.

^ This, absolutely.
I saw my niece's Facebook page once and my head nearly caved in with the banality of it all.

I have most of the same issues with Facebook that have been mentioned in this thread -- and I'm constantly complaining that it's little more than marketing platform disguised as social media.

So why do I stay? I do enjoy some of the stimulating conversations I have with a handful of my contacts over important content that pertains to environmental, political and social issues. You just have to take the good with the bad.

I have Facebook, but very seldom use it, except to log onto other sites (like Ting, my cellular provider). If any one wants to talk to me, my email address is readily available, if you look my Facebook profile.
