I'm not good at these top 10s, and I realize there's a lot of great 80s films I've yet to see, but here's a couple of my favourites:
Big: Tom Hanks grows up from a 10 year old kid to an adult after making a wish at a magic fortune telling machine at the fun fair. He quickly learns that being all grown up is not as fun as it's cracked up to be.
Platoon: Oliver Stone's first entry in his 'Nam trilogy', tells the story of a young soldier who is introduced to the horrors of jungle warfare, and finds himself torn between 2 very different platoon sergeants.
The Thing: Kurt Russell stars in the mysterious tale of a monstrous being that has laid carnage upon an Antarctic expedition team.
The Breakfast Club: 5 very diverse high school kids get stuck together in detention class, and learn a valuable lesson about respecting each other and coming of age.
Robocop: the story of officer Murphy, who is grievously injured and subsequently turned into the ultimate law enforcement machine, is rife with ultraviolence and a bitingly sharp commentary on corporate America.
Jumpin' Jack Flash: bank employee Whoopi Goldberg gets caught up in a crazy web of espionage, when she is contacted by an agent who's in grave danger.
Have a hard time deciding on the remaining four. And like I said before, so many good 80s movies I haven't seen yet.
