My first topic in the Film section of WP, after reading a lot of similar ones.
Based on my following list you will notice I prefer the Italian Spaghetti westerns over the American ones. Like I often say, Westerns are American and the Americans invented that genre, but it's the Italians who created the Myth of the western. Just my opinion. Here is my list, and I saw them all, some or not even American or Italian.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Sergio Leone
The wild bunch - Sam Peckinpah
Once upon a time in the west - Sergio Leone
Django - Sergio Corbucci
Tears of the black tiger - Wisit Sasanatieng (this one is from Thailand)
Keoma - Enzo Castellari
El Topo - Alejandro Jodorowsky (this one is Mexican)
High Noon - Fred Zinnemann
The great silence - Sergio Corbucci
For a few dollars more - Sergio Leone
Four of the Apocalypse - Lucio Fulci
Dances with Wolves - Kevin Costner
A fistfull of dynamite - Sergio Leone
Johnny Guitar - Nicholas Ray
Day of anger - Tonino Valerii
Cut throat nine - Joaquin Romero Marchent (this one is Spanish)
A fistfull of dollars - Sergio Leone
Navajoe Joe - Sergio Corbucci
They call me Trinity - Enzo Barboni
The Searchers - John Ford
Companeros - Sergio Corbucci
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid - George Roy Hill
Unforgiven - Clint Eastwood

Yea, good list, but the Searchers is the greatest Western of all time and John Ford is the greatest director of Westerns of all time.

It's on my list, and I agree the Searchers is great, but for me it's not the greatest western of all time, but it's up there, it's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (one of my all time favorite films along with Blade Runner) and Sergio Leone is the greatest director of Westerns.
Just my opinion.

Actually, sergio's film, "once upon a time in the west" is superior to his "good, the bad and the ugly" in terms of direction, music and pictorial style.

Yes, but I personally prefer The Good, the bad and the Ugly 8)
It's not because I agree with Citizen Kane has being one of the greatest films ever made that I will put it on my top 10 or 100 list of all time favorite films. I always rate based on what I like and not on what it is or other think or it. Just check out my other list I gave on WP ;-)

Yeah, I absolutely love Westerns...

My all time favorite movie is My Name is Nobody with Terrence Hill and Henry Fonda.

Next comes John Ford's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance--it has a fantastic cast, and it is a really interesting study of the hero myth like My Name is Nobody above.

I love Eastwood Westerns too, The Man With no Name trilogy is great, but a bit over rated. My absolute favorite is High Plains Drifter--it's such a dark, moody, unusual film.

I also think Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is extremely overrated and the ending just plain sucks. How can you be that cynical and romantic all at the same time?

Fun fact: Leone's My Name is Nobody is actually a rebuttal of sorts to SP and The Wild Bunch. There's also a lot of references to Leone's other films, such as Once Upon a Time in the West.

I really enjoyed Maverick on TV and I thought the movie was a lot of fun. I'd like to see another TV series.

My dad absolutely loved the Maverick TV show, and so the movie version has special meaning for me, as it was one of the last films I had taken him to before he died.

How could I have forgot Maverick, lots of fun.
Tombstone was great for a more modern western.
Another one I liked is Silverado.

If I can recall:

Way of the Gun (come on, it's totally a Western)
Quigley Down Under
the typical Sergio films
True Grit (new one)
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Unforgiven
Shanghai Noon
Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid

I think that's all of them.

I haven't seen Django; that's supposedly good.

O, yeah, definitely El topo too.

Ah, damn, and also throw in The Magnificent Seven.
