Why didn't Adam find the house Beth was in?

I'm watching the movie "Adam", as perhaps most of you have already watched ... but near the end of the film when Adam goes to find Beth at her parents house, he seems totally lost in the middle of the street and starts shouting out her name.
What's the significance of this? Aren't the house numbers in America either on the houses or on the curves? I wonder if this is supposed to be some aspie trait that I've never heard of before ...because most (all?) people would be able to find the house pretty easily
