Why would celebrities be in for a 'rude awakening' if we started ignoring them?

Well, if most folks started ignoring them, that would include their work as well. If no one watches their movies or TV shows, they end up out of work. If they haven't made wise financial decisions by then, they'd end up just like the rest of us: working a "regular job".

Sadly, too many celebs (especially the "high-profile" ones) end up letting all the fame go to their head. They get this false sense of security, thinking they're untouchable because of their profession. It certainly doesn't help that several are surrounded by "yes men" most of the time.

There are people who are famous because they actually did something (have a good role in a successful movie, make good music etc) but there seem to be more and more "celebs" who are famous for being famous it seems. People like the reality "stars" are just famous for making themselves look ridiculous in some show (Jersey Shore/Geordie Shore, that kind of crap).
