The Woodsman.

A convicted pedophile is released into the public, where he must face the fear of revelation and the social ostracization that comes with it, as well as trying to overcome his urges.
Heartfelt movie considering the subject, though in many ways unrealistic (he's allowed to live by a school and drink beer while on parole).

Damon and Pythias (1962)

One of those 'Sword and Sandal' or 'Peplum' films made in large numbers in Italy during the 1950s and 1960s, with a largely Italian cast although it was common to have an American actor or two guesting in major roles.

This is a bit boring for the most part, but becomes more watchable in the final forty minutes or so. Revolves around the unlikely friendship between an Athenian intellectual (Pythias) and a streetwise Syracusan wideboy (Damon), and their loyalty to each other when Pythias is captured and sentenced to death by the Syracusan tyrant Dionysius I.

The only cast member I recognized was the Italian actress Liana Orfei, in the role of Damon's wife, Adriana.

Detention (2019) on Tubi TV

I spent the day watching the Taiwanese TV series on Netflix (posting [url]here[/url])

This 2019 film is based on the video game Detention. It is closer to the game than the TV series.
The film is like a hellscape nightmare when a young man gets trapped inside his school at night. The school comes alive with the nightmarish deeds of the times (1962) when martial law governed Taiwan. All writings with even a hint of communism was banned and if caught the punishment could be death. This tells the story of teachers and students caught at this school where a student is trapped with a female student. Military police demons chase and haunt the two and we learn the girl's relationship to the whole ordeal. There is blood and gore. Doors lead to random areas of the school where memories are played out. Much more of a modern day horror film than the TV series.

The TV series is more like a sequel where a girl in modern day Taiwan is haunted and possessed by a girl from the past who committed suicide.

The movie was good, but I think I prefer the series because it takes its time telling the story, with a version of the film's story injected in the plot.

P.S. The first two of these are two of the greatest science fiction movies out there.

Leo (the new Netflix movie about the lizard)

We watched it last night and it was so f*****g funny. Once it started I regretted it, because I thought it was going to be really stupid, but it was a good stupid, not a bad stupid. I was dying at certain points because it's really witty and there's a lot of lowkey inappropriate jokes.

Watched a movie called Room today.

Based on the synopsis it shouldn't have been good but the acting and the dialogue was imo second to none. I was transfixed on it.

It was a great movie and worthy of its status as an Oscar contender lead by excellent
performances by Paul Giamatti and director Alexander Payne. He is now back on track after what went wrong with Downsizing, which had Matt Damon in it.

Antiviral.

First rate body horror movie by Brandon Cronenberg (yes, son of THAT Cronenberg!).
Sometime in the near future, a scientist/salesman working for a company that indulges in the cult of celebrity, infects buyers with the viruses of celebrities so they, too, can experience what the rich and famous suffer from. But he has a side business where he injects himself with this or that famous person's ailments, then sells them to an underground lab for the purpose of turning the collected blood samples into steaks made from said famous persons' flesh. Becoming increasingly sick, he discovers that one of their most sought after celebrities has reportedly died from an artificially designed mystery illness. He realizes he must uncover this conspiracy and find a cure before he also dies.

Last night I watched the Squid and the Whale which I liked and about half of White Noise which I couldn't follow at all. Both Noah Baumbach films.
