I'd wanted to continue my creature-spotting and last night, after considerable prodding, we watched:

The Creature from Lake Michigan [2010]
<=>"You wanna come back to my place, see my monster?"

:( Producer Jim Hardison reports that everything went wrong.
:-? They didn't complete the film.
 One thing did go right, however, he and one of the crew fell in love and married.
 Much later their daughter asked how they had met.
8O Then she wanted to see the movie!
:salut: So, they finished it...21 years after starting production!

It's not very good but it is fun! My bride paid attention to it...ignoring her phone!!

My bride and I concur on the following assessment:

\o/\o/It is pretty good for a pretty bad film\o/R E C O M M E N D E D !\o/

I'll also mention it's current IMDb rating is an impressive 9.1!
<=> :lol: There areelevenvotes.

Last night I watched:

Superintelligence [2020]

Mostly a Rom-Com with a touch of Science Fiction to create the situation which is that an AI in a consumer product became self-aware and has been covertly seizing control of all electronic devices. But it hasn't yet decided what to do with humans:

Save?\o/\o/\o/Enslave?\o/\o/\o/Destroy?
It decides to do a three-day experiment on one human to help figure out what it should do with us.

Fun movie. The science fiction content is not overwhelmingly large but is good.

\o/\o/\o/R E C O M M E N D E D\o/\o/\o/

And I think the IMDb user rating is too low. People may have been expecting something along the lines of her, The Matrix, or Free Guy and then been disappointed. But, this movie isn't that kind of flick. It's a Rom-Com.

Nails.

A woman, after surviving a hit-and-run accident, is hospitalized in a decaying facility where she feels she is trapped in a broken body. She believes her husband will trade her in for a younger woman (as he had left his first wife for her). And then, she is visited in the night by a terrifying specter that threatens to kill her. Soon, she comes to believe this was a serial killer who had committed suicide at the hospital thirty years before.
First rate Irish horror film. Much recommended.

Last night was the conclusion of my creature-spotting. With no prodding, because she enjoys this film, we watched:

Creatures from the Pink Lagoon [2006]
[<=>"Pink is the new black."

Fun!

Funny little vignettes shot in black and white of various colorful or eccentric people having conversations over coffee and cigarettes. Very enjoyable.

I love that movie. Jim Jarmusch is one of my favourite directors.

Poor Things. Um, yeah. I think it's good, but I'm going to need to think around that one for a little while. Certainly one of the more interesting movies I've seen lately, and visually very unique.

The Dry

If you want an accurate depiction of what life is like in an Australian country town during a drought, this is it.
Everything in this movie is spot on, actually, especially the dialogue.
Americans may be confused by some of the vernacular used but this could have easily been about my town, the people in it and their story.

Loved it

So many movies mentioned here that I’m interested in seeing now. :) Love reading this thread for that very reason.

Saw Dune Part 2 on Friday night’s opening here. Read the book when I was sixteen. Really enjoyed Part 1 movie-wise, but did not enjoy Part 2… The author’s intention to display the dark side of human nature shone through in this latest film. It was unnerving, dark, epic, with Austin Butler’s psychopath portrayal, so spot on, it was unnerving.

In the past month, have viewed …

“Beau is Afraid” - brace yourself for this surreal nightmare. Not recommended for those needing stability.

“Wicked Little Letters” - this was very good, based on a true story in a village, not far from where I live.

“Dream Scenario” 2023 Comedy/Fantasy - memorable & actually pretty good! Enjoyed! One of the more unusual films … Nic Cage was very good in this!

Monty Python & the Holy Grail - (48.5 Anniversary) Did not age well.

The Bee Keeper - Exceptional! Really good film!

Saltburn - Memorable shocker.

Baghead - An alright film, moody, dark.

Wonka - much better than anticipated. Really liked the sweet storyline between Wonka & his young female friend.

Anyone But You - daft!

Argylle - Not my thing.

Night Swim - An ok horror with a first time it’s been done, haunted pool.

This week planning to see either Lisa Frankenstein or One Love.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.

Aquaman and his half brother, Orm, have to join together to stop Black Manta from releasing an ancient undersea evil in order to exact revenge.
Better than critics said it was.

The nominees are:

Ninety-Five Senses (US, narration in English)

Letter to a Pig (France & Israel, dialogue in Hebrew)

Pachyderme (France, narration in French)

Our Uniform (Iran, narration in Farsi)

War is Over! (US, no narration or dialogue)

All of these short films were great pieces of animation, dark and worth the ticket.
