The Final Countdown (1980)

LOL, time travel nonsense, American aircraft carrier in 1980 finds itself at Pearl Harbour in 1941, in a plot that could have come from Star Trek or The Twilight Zone. Still, it's watchable and doesn't outstay its welcome. Clever plot twist at the end, which I should've seen coming, but didn't of course.

Kirk Douglas is the aircraft carrier's captain and he's looking a bit ancient here. Then I realized that the guy's still alive four decades later..... :-o

That sounds like a film I might enjoy. And yes I too can not believe the man is still alive. I have been amazed for like three years about him. He was looking bad after a stroke and he was interviewed at the Oscars. I thought he won't be her much longer and that was like seven years ago :o

^ I'd give it between 6.5 and 7 out of 10. The story is easy to follow and quite entertaining, but the main characters don't have much depth to them. The captured Japanese pilot in particular is embarrassingly cartoonish.

You also get to see plenty of scenes where the state of the art US military hardware of the time is on display. You have to wonder how a nation with this degree of technological sophistication at its disposal could have been humiliated so comprehensively in Vietnam just a few years earlier.

Batman: Hush.

Animated DC movie where Batman finds friend and foe alike sent out after him by a fiendish super villain simply calling himself Hush. The big surprise is who Hush really is. Great movie.

I watched the new Lion King. It's technically striking, but it felt a bit pointless. They changed very little from the original movie, and the things they changed I disliked.

Finally got to watch the 1996 remake of Diabolique in English (had previously only been able to acquire a version dubbed in Portuguese).

Was it worth it? Barely. Sharon Stone and Isabelle Adjani are stunningly impressive from an 'eye-candy' point of view, but the script and the acting aren't up to much. The film also lacks the tension and atmosphere of the black-and-white French original, whose plot it follows in the essentials, but takes a lot of liberties with the details.

It took me over six months to find an affordable dvd of this. In theory it's readily available, as its secondhand price of £0.50 at CEX would indicate, but I must have visited at least a dozen branches and scoured through thousands of films in an unsuccessful effort to locate a copy (not to mention going to around 50 charity shops). It's also been difficult to find on Amazon, often unavailable, and with many secondhand copies going for £15-25, though recently quite a few cheaper ones have materialized.

I just finished Ferris Bueller.

Does anyone else see Cameron as being autistic, or is that taken for granted?
